I want to know your guys' opinions on whether it would be feasible for me to move down to STT. I've been on the message boards a lot and have done the all research. So with that said let me give you the details so you can see if I could live in the VI. I would move to STT either this November or December. I would like to live & work near Red Hook (I hear it would be a good place for a single guy in his early 20s). Which brings me to one of my main fears that I will not be able to make enough money bar tending or waiting tables? What do you guys think? One of the main complaints I always hear is how everything on the islands is more expensive. By working at some restaurant or bar in or near Red Hook will I have enough income to support myself? Also when I say support myself I mean rent an apartment, go out and have fun, and put food on the table. I will not be bringing down a car as it is too expensive to transport to the island. Also how much money should I save up before making the move down?I await your answers. Thank you.

If you can't make enough money doing that, it might be possible you're a rotten bartender or waiter. 😀 Plenty of other people do but you might need more than 1 job. It will help if you have a roommate or find one once you're here. Check the Classified section of this forum for what kind of rent to expect, have a round trip ticket (you might not like it here) & plan to live simply. Try not to get TOO involved in the partying scene. You'll have more competition for jobs possibly if you wait until November or December so you might want to come down in October.

Do you have bartending/waiter skills? Most apartments may want first & last months rent plus security & if utilities aren't included you'll need to factor in utility deposits. Best of luck to you! Now's a good time to try out living down here at your age with no encumbrances.

Did you end up moving? If so, how are you finding it down there? I was thinking of going there right after I graduated two years ago but now I have finally saved up enough money to make the move, any suggestions/ advice would be great.

When are you planning to move? I'm actually planning on coming to the island around early January possibly sooner. I have all my finances in order just waiting to hear from my brother to see if he is going to go with me.. I am going to be looking for a place just like you and maybe even need a roommate..let me know what u think..
