What has been the general reliability of the Island Lynx ferry service? How often does it go out of service, and for how long?

As background, this is the (only) ferry service that runs between STX and STT.

I hear that the ferry has been out of service (for how long?), that the Coast Guard is inspecting the repairs today (Thu 7/20/06), and if it passes it will be running again first thing tomorrow.

Thanks for any info.

I saw the Island Lynx ferry running yesterday afternoon (Fri 7/21/06), off in the distance, so I guess the repairs were successful. Does anybody know how long it was out of service, and what has been their reliability in general?

It was out for at least 5-6 days. Some of our guests had to rebook transportation with the seaplane.

It seems to be fairly reliable - except that they were waiting for parts - then when it came they got a wrong one - wasn't stainless steel. So they had to wait more. Now it is running again. I have to say though, I was a ferry junkie - then when it was down had to take the sea plane. Decisions, decisions.... Although the next time it will probably be seaborne again. They quote an $85 each way when you try to book, but ask for the seasaver and super seasavers - I ended up going RT to STT on Wed 10am flight/3pm flight back cost $110. My daughter's one way was $75 for the 3pm flight.
