My decision to move to STX depends on the health of the on island hospital,.....since I'm a critical care nurse. I will definitely do a travel nursing assignment before making a long term decision to permanently move. Do you long term, on island residents think the SF Luis hospital will turn itself around anytime soon. Their situation leaves me with many concerns.

JFL has had issues for a very long time. I don't really see them resolving these issues in the near future as they are still massively in debt and need the VI government to bail them out to the tune of millions of dollars which is non existent due to the VI government also being massively in debt to the tune of over 133 Million Dollars.

RLSH on STT might be a better bet as an employer than JFL, if you have concerns.....and you should.

The latest news that the GERS is also going ahead with plans to sue the hospital for not forwarding insurance contributions to the body is also of concern:

Wait until this summer when the hospital is evaluated again. If they lose their certification, there's your answer. Our opinions don't count, and you shouldn't make a decision to move based on our opinions.

Despite its failings, the JFL hospital isn't going anywhere, IMO.

the hospital , i agree with vicanuk, is not going anywhere but it is in no way financially stable. there was a nice job opening there for my position but i purposely did not apply because of their financial troubles

Why do you think the hospital is not going anywhere? Maybe AeroMD knows something we don't.

I would not make plans based on a local hospital. Better to consider a private practice or federal clinic. Frederiksted has a federal clinic.

When in Dominica a few years ago, I saw a clinic that a nurse had established. IMO nurses in States should have more flexibility to offer services for a fee.

What Governor would allow the hospital to fail on their watch?

If you're definitely going to do a travel nursing assignment before making a long term decision to permanently move, you can evaluate for yourself and see if it's a good fit prior to making a commitment to move. That's really the smart and best way to go. You'll have your own first hand knowledge and interactions.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

When they ditch the current CEO, things may start to improve.

.

Simple answer. ....It's the only hospital on island. The closest other hospital is 40 miles away by sea or air.

The entire population cannot fly out for medical services.

I agree. He really needs to get out of the administration business and stick to medicine.
