Hello,

Looking at an interview for a position at Mahogany Run in the near future and was just looking for any advice/help about the relocation and rental. Looking at the map the golf course is in the North, but is it possible to live at other areas and still have a reasonable commute (traffic). Also, my wife would be looking for work, has degrees in Sociology and currently works as a psychometrist, but she's did rest., hotel, admin, and other. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope I get the job!!!!

thanks

If you work at Mahogany, it's probably easier to live elsewhere & still get to work since most locations will mean you'll be going against the traffic for the most part. Of course where your wife works might be a factor too. Is there some reason you don't want to live on the north side?

Trade,

No reason for the North side, just looking at all our options. I wasn't sure if prices might have a tendency to be a little lower away from the water. We are not picky on housing just looking for I guess the best deal we can get. If I get the job, we'll be staying for several years, if not forever. Would like to just move in once and be happy with it.

thanks

Jamie

I've lived on beaches & MUCH prefer being up on a hill. You'll likely have a beautiful view since STT is so hilly so entirely possible to have a million $ view for a modest rental price. And I mean modest for island living. I live on the south side but the north side is usually cooler. Best of luck to you! Have you been here before? Check the classifieds on this site to get a feel for prices.

Mahogany Run is fairly convenient from all angles except the south side. I don't know what a psychometrist does, but I'm thinking University? Hospital? Both are as convenient from the north side as anywhere else, except UVI is on the west side, but still not too bad from the north.

If your wife winds up at a resort, most of those are out east. Marriott is south, but that really would be a rough commute for you.

Good luck with the job, and if you get it, I bet the people at MR will be able to help you find a place, and will probably have some contacts for your wife. That's how it works. It's a small island.

Trade,

Have only been to the islands during a cruise and spent the usual 6 to 8 hours and then ventured on. The company is willing to pay some relocation expenses and I have been all over the vinow, dailynews and other sites checking everything out. Is it best to go through the newspaper for rentals or through the real estate agencies?? I've looked at both the paper and some real estate sites for places to live but of course without being there it's hard to imagine a place.

Juanita,

my wife works for a psychologist here in Augusta, GA and gives numerous tests to people seeking disability through the state, IQ tests for young to old, people who have been reported to DFACs and even people going on trial for numerous crimes. Needless to say a lot of horror stories and people who really need help. Wasn't sure if the VI had the same things for people?? Also, Just wanted to let everyone know, we are going through a winter strom right now as I type. Temps here near Augusta are in the 30's and I have about a 1/2 inch of ice and snow mix on my truck!!! Now I'm really wishing for the job...

thanks

Jamie

Hmm, I have not heard of any psychometrists here. I believe that the psychologists do their own testing. However, there are a few of them, so you might call around a bit. Are you going to come for an interview or a visit before accepting? You should take a serious look at the lay of the land, find temp housing while you look for something permanent.

You can live almost anywhere with the exception of the south side. The issue is where do you want to live? Like a previous writer said he likes the mountain top views and breezes. There are the beach people who prefer to be by the beaches. It is your choice.

We live right above Sapphire Beach. I think that this beach is one of the most beautiful beaches with good breezes, swimming, snorkeling, views and water. But that is our choice.

There are rentals available. but they are hard to find on a beach. If you are comming down we offer guest rooms for PMVers. PM me if you are interested.
