I know from reading all the posts for the last six months or so that it is nearly impossible to get a job until you are physically on the island. Realistically, how difficult is it to get an office manager/bookkeeper/admin-type position? (STT to be specific) Are we talking weeks, months.......what? It's a scary thought to know I'll be unemployed for the first time in my adult life and not know when my next paycheck will be! I'm sure lots of you have done it, so I'd appreciate the input.

As always, thanks in advance for all your help!

If you want a bookkeeping/office manager position there are several posted in the paper. You can view the paper at www.virginislandsdailynews.com. Click on the employment tab on the upper left. Good Luck!

If your skills are good & you have a good resume & work history I doubt it would be difficult at all. Good luck!

Edited to add that it might be a good idea to send your resume ahead of you to the jobs listed & in the cover letter state when you'll be on island & ask to set up an interview. When I got my first job here I did that & wasn't even planning on being in the VI but was going to be vacationing down-island & said I'd be happy to come up for an interview. They contacted me, I came up & got the job & have been here 25 years so that's what worked for me.

TRy to lock in a job with a contract for a year or so. Book keeps are generally in demand. You will need a place to stay. Studions go for about 1000 per month plus utilities. You can get some lodging cheaper if you look around. But it will be tough. A car will cost somewhere around 2-3000 for anything decent.

good luck

I regularly check the job postings on all the different sites. My original target move date was Oct 1st, but that has changed to after the first of the year due to a family wedding. I would love to find a work-at-home position, but that seems unlikely. I need to sell my house in LA too (by the way, it was 49 degrees here this morning!).

I'm about 30 miles outside of Los Angeles, and it was 49 when I got up this morning. But, it is supposed to warm up again this week (as I'm sure you know).

robo841,

When are you planning on moving to the VI? To STT?? If soon, I may know of an admin/office manager job available on STT. It is on the far west end but nice office environment, excellent company. PM me and I will tell you a bit more and you can share more of your story with me...
