Locals' Views on "Transplants"..

How do the residents of STT feel about people "moving in" and trying to make it work there? If we try to start a cleaning business or do "handy man" or construction work, can we expect some "friction" from locals? I am just imagining locals feeling like we are trying to "steal" their business by starting our own...

Any thoughts?

i would'nt worry about it, so many "locals"are'nt local,so many years ago they had to import workers from down island to clean hotel rooms ,do house maitenence work ect because most of the local locals did not want those kinds of jobs, like it's been said if you want the work you will be overwhelmed once you've been here awhile and start to develope a rep, i would'nt worry to much about it, it's business

They have more of a problem with those who come here & try to change everything to "how it's done back home." Not that changes aren't needed but frequently it's taken as an insult. Expect locals you meet to be reserved until they figure out you're not going anywhere.
