Does anyone know of anyway to rent a car four about 8 months?

Most car rental agencies have rates for these types of long term rentals.
Check with Budget or Dependable Car in STT (www.dependablecar.com)
See if affordable, if not purchase a car for use during the 8 months.

What island? If you're on STT check First Rent-A-Car. They get about $225.00 per week.

Contact Centerline. When we first moved here and were waiting for our car to arrive from down island, we rented a great Explorer from them for a month at a reduced rate.

The least expensive legal auto rental will cost you at least $800 a month. That will give you a newer fully insured car. We had some friends who used Centerline on stx. If you plan to rent or lease for 8 months you might negotiate a better deal, but it will still cost you around $6000. I suggest you look into buying a used car and selling back when you leave. You will need to register and insure it, but you could even break even on costs.
