Having worked for many different types of companies in the USVI, good luck at finding what you think is a "legitimate company."

/Hugo hit, I became a roofer
//Caribbean Steel sucked, and was one of the more "legitimate" companies. We removed an asbestos roof from an elementary school, with the students wandering around below us - Jarvis Elementary? something like that
///supervised putting the hypalon flat roofing on the airport. Whoever came before me did not fasten down well over 200 fasteners, and the company I worked for said to "let it go"

So, NoOne
Since many seem to get upset when I voice my opinion regarding local tradesman workmanship(or lack thereof).
So, what ARE you saying here??
To the others whom think I`m the ONLY one who feels this way, or go out of my way to think so,
here`s yet ANOTHER example, of the incompetence I got grilled for bringing this to light(time & time again from various people here)!

We must be realistic as to our fellow Virgin Islanders talents , to be worthy of their sense of grandeur.
It is not entirely their fault as the above post reveals, for instance, the project managers/those in charge, chose to remove asbestos from a roof of a elementary school, during operational hours.
The workers did as they were asked by their superiors.
Still, the burning question is WHY?
Why not when school is closed??
I`m sure we do not need to reinvent the wheel, there is most certainly a correct procedure that was not followed here.

And, Trade was correct !
NoOne, if you are seeking a job, post it in the classifieds section.
I see you want to perform your tasks properly, welcome on board/to the island!

Good luck to you!

I am saying my experience with construction companies in the USVI has not been good. I did not know we were removing asbestos from that elementary school, or I would have reported them. I did not find out until three or four months later when the school was listed in the Daily News as having asbestos, and since then I have worked with asbestos and now know what it looks like. Just so you know, I removed the asbestos without any protective gear - like I said, they did not tell us.

I am not looking for a job nor will I return to the USVI. There are many old pains and aches that I remember from STT, and see that I would be better off living stateside. Once in a while, I visit to see my life-long friends that still live on the island.

FYI, I lived on STT from March 8th 1981 to some time in January 1990.
