Mail-how long??

I'm trying to find out how long it takes to get overnight delivery from DC to STX? Is it best to use USPS or another service? I am sure this has been discussed before and someone will know the answer.

My time is a bit rushed at this moment because of our current situation. We have turned our passports over awaiting visas. We are traveling to STX next weekand hope they can be sent to us there without any problems. That is just our first step of many.

The visas have nothing to do with travel to STX for any of you new people that might be reading this post. I don't want to confuse anyone. We are going to Egypt for the next year.

For those of you that have been in the process of moving you will understand how much there is to do. We sold our house in VA in July, have been staying with family in KS, purchased a lake home in MO and a condo in STX. All of our stuff is in storage and we're expected to move away for a year. I'm hoping that living on the Mediterranean will be a great experience although at this point I am totally overloaded.

In my experience so far, regular mail from Alabama to me takes about 3-4 days. Fedex from Virginia it seems takes about 3 days. Remember though, Fedex considers shipping to USVI an international package, so it's not the same overnight.

Postal Service Express Mail works overnight. Fed Ex does not consider us an international destination however can not guarantee service by 10 AM as they do in the states. It will arrive overnight but you will not receive it until, in my part of town, around 3 PM. There is a new Fed Ex International which can be used here and that is the one that takes 3-4 days. Be sure to request regular overnight delivery. UPS considers this an international destination and has no trucks so the parcels, etc. are picked up by private carriers here.
Hope this helps.

In my experience your best bet is to use Express Mail from the USPS. Allow two days, but it does happen in one lots of the time. Priority Mail is fairly reliable at 2 -3 days.

I would not use UPS unless you will be in downtown Christiansted. I had an overnight letter sent by UPS on Dec 22nd. I received it at 10:30 PM Dec 31st.

The story the UPS driver gave me is was that it was out of his way to make a trip to the east end of STX during normal business hours.

Thanks! I guess we'll be able to get our passports back.

Actually I was hoping that it would take much, much longer. If it took weeks my husband would not be able to leave for Egypt and be able to spend more time in STX enjoying himself. I'm taking an extra week myself so that I can be relaxed before we start the hassles of a new life (one year at least) in Egypt.

Then just have them send it regular mail - you could be here for months 🙂
