We have a higher than usual crime rate for our size and much of it is drug-related. Your chances of getting mugged or murdered during a drug buy is great.

Have you ever been to the VI? Maybe a short vacation/scouting trip would be a good idea.

Kevin -

I cannot speak for St. Croix, since I have yet to visit...although with all the crime I hear about, I'm not sure I'm missing out. Anyway, I have been to St. Thomas numerous times, including the beginning of March and end of April, this year. I did smoke plenty in St. Thomas. It is by no means legal, but if you are comparing to anywhere in the mainland it may seem that way. You have to use your better judgement about who you are asking, and who you associate with, but if you have ever smoked, I think you know that. Everyone I talked to regarding this subject was pleasant....even if they didn't smoke, they would point you in the right direction. As far as when and where you smoke - no one really cares if you smoke in your home, on your boat, in your car, etc. Be discreet, polite, and use common sense, but I think that you'll find that many people here like to enjoy the occasional joint, etc. It is an island, afterall.

As far as drinking goes, not many rules.....you must be 21, but other than that there aren't many worries. People drive with beers in their hands, seriously! And there are numerous "pour your own" places on these islands - talk about STRONG drinks!!!

Anyway, I hope this helps you some. If you haven't visited, you should, but you can take my word for it....it's incredible - I'm moving in August!

Ok let me set the record straight 🙂 Weed is still a no no however, as stated earlier it might not seem that way here. It IS legal to drink and drive but you can not be intoxicated or you may get a DWI. The bigest driving violation you'll obtain here is not wearing a seatbelt.

Happy trails!

Just don't go looking for drugs, then get robbed by the dealer and then run around saying you were mugged. You weren't. You caused it yourself! Hate when people do that.

Another word of caution - do not smoke weed on your boat and get caught! The Coast Guard definitely frowns on this and can "arrest" your boat along with you. Try explaining that to the bareboat company you rented from!

No, not mine! Common sense does prevail!
