dntw8up: But didn't that report in general make you think that that was just a littlle strange? In fact I think you omitted to stress what was to me the rather crucial comment that no decision had yet been made about prosecuting the 13 year old female minor. There is infinitely more to this story than has been published and frankly I'd be most surprised if it ever comes to anything either judicially viable or even a newsworthy event.

In no way shape or form do I condone sexual actiivity between minors but minors grow up very quickly these days and as long as they're forbidden by the educational system to receive infinitely less than minimal sex education and sexual protection advice whether that be against STDs or pregnancy, the same old same old will continue ad nausea.

Children will be children but children quickly, in this day and age, segue into sexual postures at a very early age.

Role models for so many of them are pretty much either non-existent or detrimental given the exemplars of single mothers devoid of real male partners who might profess love for their children but contribute next to nothing for support, while sometimes Mum just has two or three or four more children by different men and then is eligible for food stamps and WIC with impunity,,,and the taxpayers pay for these programs while the mothers and fathers remain ignorant and the children continue on with the same old, bearing children while children...

I''m not going to ramble on and I know that both you and I have segued off from the original post but I think such comments are viable somewhere on this forum! Cheers!

Very strange. In fact, it is so rare for a younger female to be accused of raping an older male that my first thought was, "I guess someone in the USVI wants to attempt to forge legal precedent."

"In fact I think you omitted to stress what was to me the rather crucial comment that no decision had yet been made about prosecuting the 13 year old female minor. "

I didn't "stress" anything. I merely noted that the event had been reported in the paper and when the veracity of my claim was questioned, I provided a copy of the article .

"There is infinitely more to this story than has been published and frankly I'd be most surprised if it ever comes to anything either judicially viable or even a newsworthy event. "

I too suspect this story will never be fully explained and what the papers do mention seems less like journalism and more like an attempt to titillate the public. Presumably details of the matter aren't made transparent to the public because of the ages of the actors, in which case journalists should keep the gossip to themselves.

It looks as though there are about 19 women to 17 men in the 15-64 year old age bracket:

But that includes the locals, which doesn't invalidate my premise.

I think the DN report about the rape is fishy too.....I mean how on EARTH can a woman rape a man?! Ummm think about it.....if a guy's not into it he's NOT into it, right? So how can a rape actually take place? Also, I think most guys are physically capable of fending off a woman if they really want to....IMHO....

mslady,
I think you must have misinterpreted the comment----a 'Santo' is short for Santo Domingo, meaning someone that is from the Dominican Republic.

Joan, while it doesn't say so, I believe that the charges must be statutory rape. If a minor is below a certain age it does not matter if both parties consent, or even if the younger party initiated the sexual act (and where I live there was exactly such a case locally, where the minor initiated the act). Legally it is still rape. This is certainly an odd case, and it sure does seem that someone is perhaps seeking to establish legal precedent.

Both are underage, but I wonder if the boy was mentally handicapped, possibly? That's just speculation but might explain it but until they do a follow-up I guess we won't know. I also don't take everything the newspaper says as accurate since a few stories where I've known the principals or where I've been involved have been "off" or downright misreported.
