I'm working on plans for my move to St. Croix in just a few weeks.

- I'll be looking for a small used SUV, cash. If anyone has good leads for me, please let me know via PM. I have read with interest past threads on various dealerships, and appreciate the information available there.

- I am going to be shipping several boxes via USPS from the east coast. Can anyone help me with "real time" estimates of how long it will take to ship things using USPS? Any advice in general about shipping various household items/clothing via USPS?

Thanks for any advice!

If they ship by boat it could take 3-4 weeks. Ship by air, less than a week. If you want it sooner than later than choose the priority mail rate or whatever it's called that goes by air.

Jenny at N2Blue has her 93 Geo Tracker for sale, asking $2500.

Priority Mail from USPS will usually be here in less than a week, they have tracking #'s and include minimal insurance and I have found them to be pretty reliable overall.

Any of the other shippers [Fed Ex etc .] are very expensive to use here.

if you go to the classified section here, you will find a lot of used cars for sale.

i have shipped things from the mainland regular mail and it has taken up to a month to get here. priority takes less time. just make sure you have some way of tracking it, and if it is valuable-insure it

Priority flat rate boxes excellent. As EE said, tracking numbers (simple track online) and insurance (up to a certain amount) included. Be brutal with your packing and don't bring/send anything other than things you absolutely can't live without. You can always leave stuff packed with friends and family and have them mail it after you've been here for a few months - (a) if you still need it and (b) if you decide to stay a while!

I've used USPS Priority and it was there in 3 days. I've also ordered from walmart and they sent my orders via usps and it took less than a week in most cases.

Recently shipped 12 boxes standard USPS to St Croix from Texas. Was told at USPS office that should only take 2 weeks. A couple made it in 2 weeks. Others took 4 - 6 weeks. No reason for the big difference in time.

Now know to ship priority. Always gets there in 3 - 4 days.

Do not deal with Caribbean Auto Mart on any level.

IMHO a '93 Geo Tracker was junk right out of the factory and isn't worth twenty five bucks never mind 2.5k.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm most interested in Ford, Toyota, or Honda (but open to considering other), small suv, 2010 or so (flexible depending on the rest).

Tire Express will always try to "upsell" you for parts after the fact.
