Hey im thinking about moving to either St. Thomas or St. Croix around june of 05 and I was wondering, what kind of jobs would I be able to get that would be enough to live. Im 20 years old and i dont have a college degree (would that affect my chances of a job?). Also when I move down there I just want to move into a one bedroom condo, how much would that run me? Thanks

well, a 1 bedroom seems to run from the upper $500 to ..well.. allot. I think you need to figure on $650ish. (you can get lucky and find one for less than $500)

I've been looking around and really the best way to do it is split a place with 2-3 other people.

As for jobs, pretty much waiters, restaurant help, and sales jobs at tourist stops would be your best bets. You could also try for employment at hotels and resorts.

Of course, there are many people on the forum that know allot more due to 1st hand experiences, so lets see if any of them chime in.

Its also worthwhile to look at older threads here since most of this has been discussed a time or two 🙂

Jim,

Have you decided on STX or STT yet? I know housing and gasoline are much cheaper on STX than STT. I would budget about $8-900 for a one bedroom on STT. $550 -$700 for a studio. My first place was a fully furnished 2 bedroom, with all utilities included for $1,200, and I thought that was a great deal. Probably fewer jobs on STX, as well. I just read an article a few days ago about the astronomical unemployment rate on STX. STT or STJ may be a better place to opt for just for the employment factor (plus there are more tourists here. Iif you are single, they can be a good source of companionship...if you get my drift! haha! The expat man to woman ratio on STT is about 7 men for every woman! Yikes!
