Hi,
I am part of a group of four twenty-somethings who are moving to St. John's in the middle of October. I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to go about finding housing. Should we find a place ahead of time or wait until we get there? Either way do you know of any good resources that would help us out. We are extremely excied about the move, but aren't sure where to start. Thanks so much. Take Care.

Moving to St John (no 's')in October could be difficult. To find something beforehand is unheard of. You need to be there to scout the various bulletin boards that offer places up for rent. You could stay at a guest house of camp at Cinnamon Bay, until you found a place. If you don't, which is likely, you may have to stay in St Thomas and commute like a lot of workers do now!

Yikes! Is it really that bad? I had no idea. How far is the commute from St. Thomas? Also, why is October a bad time to look? Thanks for the advice. Anymore helpful hints?~Suzanna

There are people moving here right now by the droves. Imagine what October will be like!
It is a 15 minute ferry ride over to St John. I know people in St. John that have moved to St. Thomas to save on rent and commute!
Yes, you can possibly find a place, but you do need to be there and do some serious searching.

Hi Suz!
My husband and I have been researching our move to STJ for a year and although we have visited and made many contacts, we're 4 weeks out with NO prospects on a place to live. Listen to these nice people on the message board......they know their stuff!!
We even have a rental agent that we pay and are no closer to finding a place. St.John is very small (2 thirds is National Park) so the demand is high and so are the prices!!
Don't get discouraged!! Keep searching!
Have y'all been to the Virgin Islands to scout it out yet? There are message boards in Connections, and they WONT give any information out over the phone....I've asked! LOL
Good luck to you and your friends!!
Amanda
