Hey all! I've gotten alot of info from following along these posts! I'm a 27 year old chickie, moving to St Thomas this November. I'm a traveling nurse and will be working at the hospital there. I'm going to be staying at the Sapphire Village. I looked at the website and I'm just looking for some insider feedback on the place! Is it safe, fun for a single chica, and worth it- or should I have my travel company put me up somewhere else- if so, where?? Also, how is the best way to get around the island without a car?? Thanks so much!!!
Emily

Lots of travelers stay at Sapphire Village. It is close to Red Hook (restaurants, ferry to St John, etc) and has a great restaurant on property. You will not be able to work without a car, unless you pull all day shifts, not likely as a traveler. The safaris don't run at night. If your company is putting you up, you are lucky. I know a lot of folks have to find their own lodgings.

You will be able to work without a car, most travel nurses do. Sapphire is on safari route, it will be 2$ each way. Sarfaris stop running around 7:30pm so if you work day shift it is actually harder to catch one home, since we do mostly 12hr shifts. They start running plenty early that it is no problem getting one to work in the morning or home in the morning for night shift. You will be fine though catching one home and if for some reason you have to stay late most of the time someone will offer you a ride, another nurse or hospital security.

Hi there,

Where is the hospital in relation to sapphire village. I think I will also be staying there when I relocate as a travelling nurse.
Empresrn, are you staying in a studio or a one bedroom? What dept. will you be working in?

If you look at a map of St. Thomas, the hospital is on the eastern edge of downtown Charlotte Amalie. Sapphire is all the way east, as far as you can go. You would think I would know this, but I'll have to guess at about 6 miles (+/-). The safari bus does go by, but as mentioned, it doesn't run late at night.

I am also a traveling nurse moving to the island in Nov:) Any info on the NICU/Nursery at RLS? Where is the best place for nightlife? Any info would be helpful.
