Need some advice about palm trees please

Hello. A couple months ago, I bought 3 smallish palms from Home Depot - they were about 3 feet tall. I put them into pots and later transplanted them into larger pots. They live outdoors and get fed and watered as needed. The paper that came with them did not state whether they should be indoor or outdoor plants. They do get quite a breeze as they are near the ocean.

The problem with all of them is that half of every leaf has turned brown from the tip inwards. I experimented with one palm and snipped off all the brown thinking that might help. It didn't and in fact the brown has returned as the leaves grew back. Now they are to the point where there is more brown showing on each palm than green. Someone told me to buy epsom salts that was supposed to stop the browning - it hasn't.

Would you please offer some advice on what to do to help these palms because at the rate they're going, soon they will be completely brown. Thanks very much -

You should find out what kind of palm trees you have. If you are near the beach, some causes of browning could include salt intolerance, and wind burn. Some varieties do not do well in full sun. If you can't get an ID take one of them to the Botanical Garden on Tuesdays & Fridays 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.or at one of their sales. The volunteers can probably identify and diagnose your problem.

You may be giving them too much attention, too. Native palms are used to our pretty poor soil and don't take well to being coddled with plant foods, nor overwatered.
