I sure hope mailboxes 'n more is holding our 20 some boxes that I have been shipping to our PMB, nothing has come back, so I'll take that as good news :). The last few boxes leave NYC early next week!

Thanks to all for the help and advice over the last couple years. Gotta say, I've got the butterflies in my stomach in a bit...
Hope the weather, flights, and kitty transportation x3 goes without a hitch...

Oh, to anyone who has gotten the health certificate to work in restaurants, how long did the process take? And where exactly do we go for that?

Thanks.

See you all on the island soon!

Rebecca and Seth

Funny, you're 3 days ahead of us! 🙂 And leaving from the opposite coast of the mainland. No kitties here, but our dog is about the size of a cat. Careful with those butterflies... might have to pay extra for them on the plane, too. 🙂 Hope it all goes perfectly for you! I'm sure we'll see you around!

Sweet, good luck to you guys too! We should all meet up for a bite when you're a little settled! It'd be nice to start meeting people 🙂

If you do a search on health card you should find plenty of info. It comes up regularly and nothing much changes down here.

Yeah, that would be great! We'll have to remind each other in a few weeks. I'm sure life will get a little bit crazy for a while as we make the transition. 🙂

I am so jealous! Had the wife and kids on board, then my daughter had to go and get into a great high school. Dream on hold for another four plus years. If our children only knew the sacrifices we make for them.:$)

Food handlers cards are issued at the public health clinic at the Hospital. Can be done in one day generally takes 2 days.

When you get here, don't forget to take off your watch for the first few weeks. Get used to the s-l-o-w-e-r pace of life!

Good advice from jefgar.

I've been here for two months and haven't worn a watch in all that time (except while SCUBA diving)!

Keep your NYC apt. for a year, at least 6 months by that time you will know if you made the right move

Health cards are easily obtained from the Charles Harwood Health Center. They only take one visit to get but the hours are funny...9-11 and 1-3 I think. You'll need to have a stool sample checked at a local lab. Bring the report and your SS card. Cost is minimal.

Health Card - you go to the Lab in Beaston Hill, get a stool-sample "cup" Put a drop in the cup and give it back to the lab.
You can pay more to have it expedited or you go back and pick up your results the next day.
You take your results to Old hospital (?) - between C'sted and Orange Grove
and once you find the right office the woman takes your picture and asks a few questions.
You go to the Payment window + pay the fee, go back to the office and get the card + you're done.

I think the whole cost for both Lab and the card was $35 ? - I might be off on that.

What do they test the stool sample for?
