Has anyone checked out the new appliance store? I see in the Source that it is open (I'm off island). How did you find their price/selection of appliances? Anyone have any idea if they will offer "real" stateside type warranties on appliances?

The selection was good for washers. dryers, stoves, refrigerators and all sizes of plasma and LCD TVs. The merchandise was well displayed. KMart had flown a bunch of suits in from off island to help with the grand opening and to train the sales staff.

The store can order you anything that they don't have locally that Sears carries.

From a quick walk through it looks like they are selling mid to upper price range appliances. If a cheap appliance is all you can afford then Cost U Less is probanly cheaper.

Large screen TVs were less expensive than Mikes Electronics for a name brand. I did mange to purchase a 37" LCD for less than Kmart had it priced for when Radio Shack had it for a nationally advertised manager's special in May.

Thanks. it will be nice to see some competition for GB hardware. Especially if there is some real price competition. My experiences with the warranty/repair service from GB has been lousy.

It's where Western Auto used to be, in the parking lot with WAPA.

Gallows Bay Appliance was wonderful when my fridge turned into a lemon. Was actually out of warranty but had multiple problems in it's short 2 year stay at our house. Replaced it with a brand new same model and a later version. Kenmore brand. The price was comparable to what I saw at K-mart the other day. Glad I purchased ON island!! That seems to be the key when buying appliances. Very much welcome some healthy competition though and it should help prices come down for all the stores.
