New Sands Beach Bar (old H20) on STX

Had lunch yesterday at the Sands Beach Bar, the new restaurant in the old H20 space on STX. Although they're still working out some of the kinks, overall it was a positive experience. The space looks largely the same, but has been spruced up with new paint, fixtures, doors and windows, and refurbished bar. The menu is basic beach bar fare, in a good way: salads, sandwiches, burgers and a few entrees. Prices are reasonable, and our meals were quite good. I had a blackened mahi sandwich, which was perfectly prepared and came with a huge portion of sweet potato fries. My wife had the Caribbean caprese salad, a unique twist on the standard caprese with grilled pineapple slices accompanying the slices of tomatoes and mozzarella.

I'm glad to see someone was able to make good use of this great spot in a very attractive setting right on the beach. It's a good addition to the neighborhood. Their menu, food quality, and price point seem to position them to do well, especially once they get the hotel portion (the old Hibiscus) up and running later this year.

Yes, we went on grand opening night and it was a very positive experience. Simple menu, well priced. Cocktails were of generous size. They were definitely working out kinks with service, but to be expected with a new staff. We will definitely be back.
