No, it's your responsibility to pay what you owe and file the appropriate paperwork for the room tax.
Especially if it's being charged.
Cheating and lying shouldn't be a way of life.

That's my point. I don't think many AirBNB hosts even charge the room tax. But, I do think the government should be collecting it directly from AirBNB like in other places. That makes the most sense.

This is an area were you and I are in agreement. Pay what you owe that's the deal. The VI government needs to go after back taxes regardless of who owes. When the government is complacent we are forced to pay more. Like the ridiculous sin tax.

There was an interesting post to "What's going on St Thomas" today by someone who got a message from Margaritaville that the room just went up by $25 per day. Not great publicity for us.

Why doesn't everyone ignore this law like every other one is ignored. Now that's funny I don't care who you are 😉

Many are ignoring it. It seems that they have a pretty good discrimination argument. It will be fun to watch this one play out in court.

Not many people are ignoring the timeshare tax - it has nothing to do with people ignoring the Hotel Tax on short term rentals either but it may be just as entertaining when those scofflaws appear in court.
