I bought one at Office Max STT on Monday. Am taking it back ASIC because you can't set the clock to AST, and Barnes and Noble can't take my VISA debit card. No other payment options.

Office Max didn't have the Kindle HD set up so I could see it, but I wasn't crazy about that small screen anyway, and they don't carry the larger screen. Sigh, back to square one...

I don't like to buy electronics sight unseen, so I guess I'll stick with my phone until I can test more options. I may get the Kindle Fire, but it may rest on what Office Max is willing to offer. I'm really disappointed that the sales associates and manager weren't educated about the product so I only had online reviews to base my decision. Unfortunately, none of those reviewers live in the VI, so I'm going to the re ire sites and posting so people can make better buying decisions.

I have a Nook color and the time is AST and B&N takes my Visa debit card. Have you tried calling Nook support to see if they can help with the time issue and figure out why they won't take your card?

Yes, divinggirl, I did call support and no help. I'm going to call and get a return authorization today.

This is a little off topic but I have a Nook and just discovered a couple of weeks ago that you can not purchase a new book if you are outside the United States. I was in the Dominican Republic for a short vacation, finished the book I was reading, and then tried to purchase a new one. Shortly after each attempt I would get an email stating the purchase attempt had failed because I was outside the US. Customer Support said thats their policy with no exceptions allowed. Kind of defeats the purpose of taking a Nook on vacation instead of a couple of paperbacks.

Is it a firstbank visa debit? I have found that card to be the most useless--it is rejected constantly for no reason. Rarely use it anymore.

I have one of the old original nooks. My time is set to AST and they take my Visa Debit Card. When you are leaving the country you can either pre-purchase and pre-download books or you can do like I do. You can turn on your laptop and fire up HMA and you will temporarily be back in the US. Then order and download your books.

It's not FirstBank. Someone warned me about that years ago so I went with Scotia. Never had a problem until B&N.

Office Max let me return with no problems, thank goodness. One of the reasons I prefer to buy local. But now I still don't have a big HD tablet so I can watch movies. 🙁 Office Max doesn't have the big Kindle for me to try.
