I am iterested in moving to the VI. Are there any nurses with information on this message board? I have extensive surgical experience and currently working as an infusion therapy nurse. I have thought of hooking up with a travel agency but I want to explore going on my own. Thanks for any info!

There is a lot of information about nursing on St. Thomas, I just don't know where. I do know that there are a lot of contract nurses who come down here. I have a friend who actually works in surgery, she gets a car allowance and lodging. But she says she makes less than she did in the states. But says being here makes up for it. I actually had surgery last Monday. The reason I have had time to get back on the message boards. Nothing too serious just a plate and six screws in my leg. I'm sure there are plenty of nurses on the board or at least plenty of info. Good Luck
Matt

The current issue of VirginIslandsDailyNews has some new developments that may impact the hospitals' contracting arrangements for the immediate future. There is a gigantic game of chicken going on between the VI Finance Committee and the Hospitals, and if someone doesn't blink the hospitals may have to close without payrolls. May bear some watching and waiting....

Thank-you Matt. Best wishes for a speedy recovery! That wasn't very minor. Sorry about the double post of my question. I didn't look far enough down the list to see that my post had made it. "Newbies" whatcha gonna do?

Lin: You might start with the web sites of the two hospitals: www.rlshospital.org and www.jflusvi.org. There are lots of opportunities. I know everyone will direct you to traveling companies, however, travelers are considered short-timers, given the hardest assignments, etc. If you only want to come for 3 months, fine. They do not allow you to be a permanent traveller. If you want to be a part of the local community, go for the NOPA job. On St Thomas we are in the midst of building a cancer center, so the infusion experience would be useful...
