Guess what!!Anyone CAN open a P.O.Box in the VI from the states, without ever having been to the VI/or having a physical local VI address.I did it!! I called the Fredriksted P.O.initially and was told that"I COULD NOT Open a box unless I was there and had a local address.Well,I looked up the federal regulations online and found out there is NO stipulation for having to have a local physical address for a P.O.Box for any where you want to get a box.You must ONLY prove that you do have a physical address(not where)and verify your ID.So I printed out the application and the P.O.Box application regulations, and took it to my local Postmater. He verified that I could do that, and wrote on the application verifying my current physical address and identity and I enclosed:My application, a copy of the regulations,my 48.00 Money Order for annual box fee,a self-addressed stamped envelope and a note asking for return receipt, and a (small-sized box) number.Well,a couple weeks later I received my receipt and my new P.O.Box number in the mail.Cool huh??? But Remember to enclose the fed. regulation copy on P.O.Boxes or you WILL get an argument/and refusal!!!Hope this helps other to have a smoother transition to moving.I am moving to STX March 1st,and am trying to get as much done online and in advance as humanly possible. Now all I need is the internet website for the Fredriksted available(most largely used)Bank. Can anyone help me???Thanks.LA

P.S.Send it Certified,so they have to verify getting it,and you get return receipt,so it won't get misplaced somewhere and you'll get prompt service.LA

Dear LA: Do you know where your post office box is? Which post office? Since you don't have a place to live, are you sure it is convenient for you to use on a daily basis? Sometimes getting things done from the states works, and sometimes it doesn't! 😉
