Does anyone have a recommendation for an ophthalmologist on STX? Also, are you familiar with The Virgin Islands Eye Institute located near Food Town? They are not in the phone book. I got the number off their sign, but I'm wondering if they are new on island and if anyone can give them a reference.

Thanks for your help.

I was told that the office is new, though the doctor has been here on a part time basis for quite a while. They came recommended.

Dr. Richard Ombres of the eye institute used to have his offices in the Pearle Vision center in Sunny Isle. He also has a practice with partners up in Miami. He spends times in both locations and has had a practice on STX for decades. He was my son's ophthalmologist when he had a severe eye infection 2-1/2 years ago and nearly lost his eye. Now he has most of his vision back and wears a special contact lens to improve it further. Dr. Ombres went to medical school at the University of Geneva in Switzerland (not some fly by night medical school in someone's shack in Central America). He's worth checking out if you need that kind of specialist.

Alexandra, Thanks for the reference. I actually stopped by there yesterday and talked to the receptionist and made an appointment with Dr. Ombres in a couple of weeks. Sounds like he may be over-qualified for what we need, but that's OK. My husband is 58 years old and hasn't had an eye exam in at least 20 years (except the drivers license physical...ha ha). Hope your son continues to do well.
