Ouch, NO GAS...

Well, for the past 10 days, everyone in Charlotte, N.C. are chomping at the bit.... we are out of gas! In a 3 mile radius you may find one gas station that has gas and the lines are 2 miles long trying to get into the station. Most are in line for at least 45 minutes to an hour or more. Cars are using up the last of their tank just waiting in line, which is causing more havoc and people yelling and honking their horns at each other. Reminds me of 1974 when they sanctioned gas and the lines were long. Seems that Charlotte is the only city in North Carolina that has this problem. They say it is due to having the least gas stations in the state for the size of the city and surrounding areas. (over a million). So, now today their are people that are on empty driving into gas stations hoping that the trucks that haul the gas to fill up the pumps will soon come. The lines are a mile long and people plan to sleep in their cars just to get gas when the truck does arrive. Now the problem with that is there is no way the gas can get to the pumps because people are jammed in line and can't more because they are on empty...lol... The police are out in the streets directing traffic and so it now takes twice as long to get where you are going. They are arresting people who are getting into fights at the pumps. The funny thing is that most Shell stations are the ones that have the gas. Price gouging is going on, as you can imagine. One day it is $409.9 a gallon and the next day it is $429.9 a gallon for regular. They say that by next week the stations should be getting gas. Let's hope so. Can you imagine if that happened on STX.
Wish us luck!
Charlotte

Actually my parents live in Hickory, NC and they were having as much trouble finding gas as you were Charlotte. Hopefully things are getting back to normal up there.

Still no gas at most stations. They say it could go on another 2 weeks. Got 1/2 tank still in the car and that will get me thru till next week. When I get down to 1/4 then off I will go looking for the lines and hopefully get into a station before shutting down.

When you find a big smoking hole in the south central part of the island where Hovensa used to stand then this will become a possibility. Until then I wouldn't worry.
