The EMT program is run through the Department of Health. The position may pay a lot less than you expect.

And isn't that a shame?

Thank you for your reply. My wife found out the starting pay, and believe it or not its about the same as i make in Georgia with a rural EMS system. Though the cost of living seems to be much higher. She will be interested in finding a teaching job.

Which island are you looking at? I'm an EMT on St. Croix and there are quite a few EMS positions that are not just Dept of Health positions. PM me if you want more information.

Hi to all of you and Happy New Year. We were also wondering about EMT and Firefighter positions in the VI. We are both Firefighter II and EMT's with HazMat and Rescue certifications. We have visited before and from what we gather and heard is that the EMS and Fire Dept ( along with the police) are short handed and unreliable. How hard would it be to get a position in the Fire Dept in the VI ? Where we live firefighters are required to be EMT's so they perform dual roles. Is EMS and Fire run together or individually ? Also are the Firefighter positions full time or volunteer only. We have a lot of training that has already been paid. We would love to put it to use somewhere where it might really be needed.

Thanks.
