We just got hooked by DPNR down to Hull Bay.  NO PETS ON BEACHES.  Service dogs only on Nat'l Park beaches and pets are allowed on hiking trails.

The officer claimed there "has always been a no dogs sign down to Hull Bay and someone took it down."  Ya, no.  He said there had been a complaint.  He also said private beaches NO DOGS.

Given the impetus for nearby development for control and its use of the beach for its visitors, coupled with the recent attempt to move the boat ramp by said development, it's not hard to guess where the "complaint" came from.  Someone wants complete control of that beach.

DPNR officer was clear - no dogs on beaches anywhere in the USVI.  Don't argue, believe me.  The Code of Federal Regulations is clear about the NP.  No dogs except service dogs.  Hiking trails is fine.

I haven't found the V.I. CZM rule yet.

I just searched VI Code.  Nothing.  Anyone know of any regulation, rule or statute in the V.I. that prohibits dogs on non-Government managed beaches?

Apparently resolved.  Officer no longer doing anything about a law that doesn't exist.

In the old America, citizens were free to do anything they chose unless there was a specific law prohibiting that activity.  So unless there is a specific law prohibiting dogs on the beach it is allowed.  As an animal lover I’m strongly in favor of allowing dogs on our beaches.
