Phone threats

I'm posting this under a new alias for obvious reasons. This is not a joke. Last week I received 3 voice mail messages at approx 2:30am that were extremely threatening. I'm sure this is an isolated wacko and in no way mean to alarm anyone, but given the content of the messages I was reluctant to report them directly to the authorities. I instead tried to go thru an inside connection higher up in the force but was told that they couldn't listen to an m4a recording of the messages that I forwarded via e-mail. As the individual is insinuating a connection with the force there is no way I am filing a local report with my name attached to it.

I think this was probably a case of mistaken identity as the house number of the home we are care taking is in a different name to mine and I do not use this phone number. If anyone has a similar experience let me know and we will find a way to deal with it. Below are links to the three messages. I will not post the third unless asked privately for the purposes of identifying the perpetrator, it is too explicit.

Instead of a local report I've sent a message to the FBI. But just in case anything happened I wanted to log a record here. I'm ready for a fight if this f'kr or cohorts show up, but just n case it goes bad then someone can backtrack this.

(and if there is a better way to share audio files let me know).

I can't get the downloads to work.

When threats were made by phone to me many years ago, neither the police nor the phone co could do anything at all about it. Generally phone threats are empty and cowardly. Those angry enough to act won't phone you first, and those who phone you are trying (often quite effectively) to scare you.

I'd always thought the 'phone company was the one to call but it seems as though the "rules" have changed as the 'phone book now advises to cal the PD at 911.

I am always wary of trying to open links under these circumstances. You never know what you will let loose into your computer.

Put your name on your voicemail announcment. Then the caller will know if he's threatening the right person. It's also helpful for everybody else who calls, knowing that they've reached the right (or wrong) person. "This is Jack Bauer of CTU. I'm not available to interrogate you right now, so please leave a message after the beeping [24-themed countdown beeping goes here]."

The links work, and they are audio files just as OP says. After listening, I understand OP's concern.

OP, the person you emailed the files to probably can't open them because they are on a PC and don't have the correct media player. I would recommend you convert the files to .wav, and resend them. Google is your friend with this.

As for your hosting site, it's pretty clunky and full of ads. You may want to try http://www.ziddu.com/, although all free sites will have ads to one extent or another.

I assume OP is referring to the "police force."

Good to know. I didn't have the foggiest idea what was being discussed!! Felt like I should be wearing a trench coat and meeting deep throat in a parking garage - lol.

I would definitely NOT call the po po. By and large, I assume the are approximately ten times more crooked than the NOLA po po, and a hundred times more dangerous. You did right to call the FBI. I tried like crazy to download the media. Couldn't get it to play. PM me if you have another way to listen.

I was having problem downloading them. Then my anti-virus software picked up something when the downloading did become successful. It was quarantined.

I would take jbatl advice and use another site to post them.

I downloaded and listened to the files. Holy shit. I don't blame you for being freaked out about this-- it freaks me out just to hear them. By all means, report to non-island authorities. In addition to FBI, consider ATF (caller repeatedly mentions his arsenal).

For those of you who were apprehensive about downloading from this site, my antivirus and malware programs detected no threat (Avast.Pro and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware) The file sharing site is a bit of a hassle. Make sure the page loads fully before clicking and be sure to click the correct download link-- the more prominent download buttons are for advertiser's junk. When you click on the download button you are taken to another page where you have a forced wait so that more advertising can be forced upon you, but after that you can download.

I downloaded the files. The caller identifies himself as Jake (smith?) The voice speaking is medium pitch, of a black stx islander. He sounds like he has lived stateside or been in the military for a while. He basically is extorting the OP for $1400/week to continue to live on island. He says he has a large arsenal of the latest weapons, highest quality. He says he will be sending some of his (n-word) to come terrorize him, and Monday the money is due. He will meet him in person. If there is no money, he will kidnap and torture the OP, and tie him up, physically beat him to death with body blows and leave him there, and if he calls the police and has them waiting there, all of everyone will be shot up, the police included. He claims to have been all over the world, but names Jerusalem only in specific. He says "This island is not for free. You can't come here and just live for free like that. You gonna pay." or something to that effect.

This is obviously a prank...the caller is possibly of Middle Eastern origin, male, about 24 years old. He is trying hard to imitate a local "bad boy" attitude.

He makes a reference to having being in "jerusalem"...local bad boy would have probably said "Detroit" or "LA"...he also seems to have some knowledge of the illegal shipment of firearms into the territory ('I only get the best') and he lends substance to the theory that the illegal firearms trade is being conducted by Middle Easterners who have access to bulk shipping and arms dealers, and who are using some of their local employees (the supermarket baggers) to distribute the firearms throughout the community.

Maybe that's where an investigation should start.

Monday came and went and there was no interaction with anyone.

I'm concluding one of two scenarios. Either a case of mistaken identity (given that the phone number of the house is not in my name) and/or this is just some crank making veiled threats.

My original intent in posting this was not to raise alarm nor scare folks, but to see if anyone else had heard of an active (or past) extortion ring on this island. If not then we can chalk this up to the rantings of a single individual and therefore it's not likely to be of great concern. Especially seeing as the person does not provide any identifying information regarding myself, my wife, nor our location.

The third message I did not post as it was the more graphic in nature of what would be done to my wife. That one really made my blood boil.

I appreciate the responses and if this turns out to be nothing by eom, I'll ask Islander to delete the thread.

...the caller is not "a black stx islander"...he is pretending to be one. The call is a prank. The caller probably knows of, or lives with, someone involved in firearms trafficking. Black STX islanders do not normally have the finances or the means of bringing large quantities of high-end firearms into the territory.

Say WHAT??? reality check... people who extort and deal firearms, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation, usually have a lot of money sitting around in drawers, piles and paper sacks.

We are talking about "Black STX islanders", not the whole world. Black STX islanders do not have a lot of money sitting around in drawers, piles, and paper sacks. However, there are people here who have access to funds, bulk transportation, and distribution. As usual, you "reality check" people become part of the problem by distracting from the obvious realities. A Federal investigation into who is, in reality, capable of mass transportation of large quantities of goods would likely yield more results than an investigation of the drawers and paper sacks of "Black STX islanders".

A varied arsenal could be assembled without tipping authorities, if a person went outside the law, which this man obviously does. Just categorizing all black islanders as incapable is really using a broad brush to whitewash and deny a big problem. The OP has a big problem, regardless of who "Jake" is. For one, he does not sound middle eastern trying to sound VI, trying to yank so the OP can understand him clearly.

Edit to add, perhaps I am more alarmed than you are, because back in the 70's, my brother's friend was hacked to death in his sleeping bag one night after just such a threat. This is an old game, not just starting this week with Jake.

Regarding Black STX islanders having a lot of money sitting around in drawers, piles, and paper sacks - I'm sure the members of the organized crime group "The Commission", when they were active (and if they still are?) had LOTS of money, drugs and a full arsenal of weapons. I haven't heard much about this group but a few years back (early 2000's) they were in the news quite a bit.

OK, I am wrong, and I will now quit this discussion in defeat and admit that the only people capable of bringing illegal firearms into this territory are "Black STX islanders", who just happen to also be members of "The Commission" and happen to have a lot of money laying around in drawers, piles, and paper sacks. You win.

God help us.

Not denying that there is a problem...simply pointing out the possibility that some entity, other than "Black STX islanders", should be looked at as a possible conduit for firearms into the territory. You are attempting to deny that such a possibility exists.

I am truly sorry about your brother's friend, this shoudl not happen to anyone.
