Places to LIve in ST. Thomas

Hi All!

I am moving to St. Thomas on Aug. 4 to work on the South Side of the island.

I really don't know what to do to prepare for a move of this type (coming from California), but I know I need a palce to stay. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get my hands on a one bedroom in a safe part of town?

Also, is it better to buy a car down in St. Thomas or buy one and ship it there? Will I get swindeled?

Just a few of the questions.

"Will I get swindeled?"

Not very nice. If you move here with that attitude, you probably won't make it. You can find a car for less than it would cost you to ship one here from Ca.

My apologies Ronnie. IT was not meant as an insult to STT.

I am just concerned about moving to a place I have never been before.

Thank you for the information.

Good night!

Tej

Hello Tej,

Southside of the island... you are working downtown?

Suggestions for finding an apartment; pick up the Island Trader once on island and call the listings there. Ask around as well, word of mouth is useful here.

Do you have a place lined up for the first couple of days?

Buying a car here or shipping one is a frequently discussed topic. Use the search option in the forum tools to look for shipping a car, buying a car. Shipping a car can be pricey (cost of shipping, taxes, handling...). There are a couple threads with breakdowns of what people paid for shipping their cars. You can get a used or new one here. Swindeled? - we have lemon laws here, you can take a used car to a garage to be inspected so the mechanic can give you a run down before buying it; do the research on the car before buying it.

Good Luck.
