Hello, I'm considering a job as a police officer with the V.I.P.D. and would like to know what is thought about the V.I.P.D by those living there...I would like to speak with an officer if there is anyone that is employed by the police dept. at this site or could refer me to someone. I would be coming from the mid west area if I get the position with the dept. Any and all information would be appreciated. 8-)8-)8-)

rlc333, you may want to do alittle research about the VIPD before considering. You can search this board for old post to begin with. They are known for corruption by many (not all). I'm not sure of many mainlander officers I believe they tend to hire "locals" or you may have to know someone. If you're in law enforcement you may have better luck in a Govt agency such as customs or DEA (not sure if their still there or not after ATF incident " I don't trust them and that's my opinion I'm sure other will share theirs. Good luck to ya. Justin

The VIPD has/had a program for recruiting, they were advertising in one of the national law enforcement magazines. They were doing latetal transfers. I don't know if they are still doing that. The problem the transfers had was the treatment by VI officers who did not take kindly to outsiders coming to do their job correctly. VIPD officers are not the most pleasant to work with when they form a clique intended to make work unbearable.
VIPD is under a consent decree due to use of excessive force, so you may want to look into that decree to see what you would be dealing with.
VIPD has just had their 3rd Commissioner resign within the last last 5 years. Right now we have an acting commissioner who carries a shady past, if you know what I mean...
The community would love to have outsiders come, but you might not be welcomed by the force. 2 years ago we had 7 transfers, 5 left within the first year.
Are you ready for such a task?

On STX, we now have Cheif Howell who working successfully to professionalize our Police Department. He incredibly proactive and is to be commended for his efforts and leadership. It's way better than just a year ago. Come for a visit and get a feel for the place and the people. Welcome
