Has anyone played blackjack at the Divi Casino on stx? I played a couple of sessions when I was on stx and thought the casino was nice, but was not a very serious player at the time. Now I love blackjack and was wondering if anyone has made any money there! Thanks!

Also has anyone ever worked for the Divi? Any reviews of that would be great too. Thanks!

I am assuming that happens if a player makes mistakes? I play basic strategy and am pretty obsessed with it! So I try to never make mistakes. But just like anything in life, it happens.

Blackjack just as any casino game has built in odds favoring the casino. They always win over time. Playing correct strategy improves your odds but don't count on "making" money. Play what you can afford and keep it fun. Good luck!!

Yes. You can make money. Side bets rarely make money however.

I recommend you download one of the iphone/ipad games that has tutorials to get good for free before you start playing for money.

Sky's right, over the long haul you will lose. There is no might, you will lose. Not just here but anywhere.

BUT how fast you lose is up to the tricks the Casino plays. The biggest thing a Casino can do to change the odds is to go to 6 to 5 odds on Blackjack versus 3 to 2. Harrah's properties in Vegas have gone to 6 to 5. This means that instead of getting $15 on a $10 bet when you hit blackjack you only get $12. That might not seem like a big deal (how often do you hit blackjack you might say) but it actually signficantly changes the odds of the overall game. This article explains it very well: http://www.blackjackinfo.com/no6to5.php

I'm not sure what is currently being played here, maybe someone else can help out, or if I head to the Casino I'll update the thread.

On the upside there are some tricks players can play that can help them out a bit too due to the sometimes inexperienced nature of the dealers and pit bosses. If the dealer has a 10 or ace showing they have to check their hold card for blackjack. You can sometimes quietly get a hint from the dealer when trying to stay or hit on a close hand (one where basic strategy doesn't give you much of an edge). They may not even know they are doing it but some dealers will reach towards the deck if you should hit or not do so if you should stand based on their knowledge of what's in the hold position. Experienced dealers know not to do this and pit bosses know to look for this (in Vegas they are starting to not have dealers check the card instead having a machine read the hold card and lighting up if there is a Blackjack), but like I said, not all dealers and pit bosses are that experienced.

But remember, barring MIT style collusion and counting (which I wouldn't try to pull here, too small to go unnoticed), you will lose money. If played right you can lose less money in blackjack than in many other games but you are not ever going to come out ahead. So enjoy the "game" part of it and the free drinks and have fun!

Thanks for all the great responses. I do understand that the house always has the edge on games like these and that in the long run a person will lose money. I play what I can afford and always quit if I have a small profit, this seems to be the way to get out ahead sometimes. I keep a track record of my play on my blog listed with my signature and have turned a profit so far, but I do understand this could take a turn for the worst in a couple sessions.

Does anyone know off hand what rules the Divi plays with? How many decks they use and what type of shuffle? Thanks!

Thats not a bad shoe size. Up here in milwuakee they are doing 8 deck shoes! I've always been told side bets are not good.

Could be more, I'm guessing 5 or 6 but I stay away from the game generally. I like poker since you play against other players instead of the house.

Played tonight and won $25 on a $10 table. They do run a 3 to 2 game so they have Harrah's properties beat. The pair side bet is 10 to 1 odds with 15 to 1 for a suited pair. I'm going to guess it was a 6 deck shoe and they use a machine to shuffle.

Divi has one poker table.
Plenty of good games on island.
PM me when you arrive.

From STT to Divi? Seaplane and a cab.

AFAIK the Casino is open 24 hours, I've been there pretty late before but never past say 2am so I don't know for sure.

I've always felt that while the Divi is small it's not bad. It has a good selection of games for its size, the drinks don't always come fast but they do eventually come. The dealers are usually pleasant enough although non demonstrative as is typical of the VI, and there is usually live music on weekends that permeates the casino from a stage high behind the bar that keeps things lively. Last night the Cafe was still open when we arrived after midnight so it was nice to get a snack in before I played.

i think on the 20th it will be 70's night for the dealers. they will be dressing in their finest 70's items, should be interesting to see how they do.
