I pretty much stopped reading L from M's posts a long time ago. It seems that in everyone of her posts, she tries to promote norml. No wonder she melts into the local populace so easily. Opening line is a business card and a "I wanna decriminalize mj"!!

In the VIPD change may need to come from within, but I want change now not in ten, twenty years. I say bring in the stateside cops. Get new people here who won't look the other way because the criminals are family, friends or neighbors.

Just a thought....didn't Turks and Caicos get taken over by the British. All the local buffoons were ousted out of office and the British came in to straighten out the mess. Isn't it time the US did the same here?

Linda from Michigan,

I enjoy and feel encouraged by your posts. I respect your energy and your desire to do whatever you can to make the USVI a better, safer, happier place for all, regardless if your definitions differ from some of the posters/readers on this site. I do not agree with everything you propose, but hell, at least you are out there doing something!

It seems that most of the negativity that comes as a result of some of your posts are from people who may have tried in the past to make a difference. Now they find it is thier duty to tell you that you can not change anything simply because they didn't. Continue on your passionate path, be prepared to be frustrated and discouraged, be prepared to make it known directly to your face that you are an "unwelcomed outsider", but be prepared to also never give up. THAT is a heck of a lot better, and more rewarding, than listening to people who tried and gave up. You, as all of we are, are different from the next person. Everyone has something to offer, so keep it up! "Doers" will attain more than "know it alls".

Bless you for your passion, desires, and strength to follow through on what you believe will add to our community.

CHEERS!

Your assumptions about failure by some of us would be incorrect, Poodle.

No, we haven't given up. Not at all, but sometimes we do want to express our outrage at the bigotry, stupidity, naivete, corruption, greed, lassitude, crime levels that serve only to keep out constructive investment in our islands, improvement of our infrastructure, and keep our islands run down, dirty, and filthy in the streets, that keep homeless people wandering with little or no help from their families or the social services, begging from the tourists and us for left over change. Each of us keeps working and serving, but the task is daunting. I wish I could instill in the at majority of natives an honest work ethic, the sense of morals they espouse on Sundays, a love for their island, a respect for all who come here, and all who live here, but I don't see it. They can't even write a simple constitution without infusing it with bigotry and xenophobia! I have very little respect for police who yell at their captives, taze them repeatedly when they are already handcuffed, or for prosecutors who can't put a case together or judges who let everybody go (almost) or for governors who spend ridiculous amounts of money for guard shacks on their property or senators who vote themselves an outrageous pay increase and at the same time tell the police, fire and ambulance workers they will have to work a few years longer to earn their retirement while teachers go without books and children roam the streets with guns.
There! That felt better. Now, back to work.

Trade, these are questions and not intended to be an attack. If you haven't given up, why do you refer to crime discussions as "beating a dead horse"? What killed that horse? Why do you seek to end such threads with what appear to be snide and/or catty remarks?

Personally, I think that rumors of the horse's demise are premature. What might be perceived as "beating a dead horse" may actually be the efforts of some to get a horse with colic to stand up.
