If you are going to be relocating to St. Thomas and find trouble getting a P.O. Box, Back Street Boxes (next to the St. Thomas Reformed Church in dowtown Charlotte Amalie) might be a good alternative. Nice folks there and they provide you with a good service for a reasonable price. Check 'em out. (340) 714-5770

Marty,

What does the address look like?

I know that PO Boxes are:

jane Doe
Po Box 123456
St Thomas USVI

So, what do the addresses look like for back Street?
Jane Doe
Back Street Box 123456

????

LOL. I can hear it now. Me talking to my boss. "uh, yes, I'll be in the islands for a few months. Just send mail to my "back street box" address.

ooooohkaaaay!

How long have they been there? On 3 occasions, I've had private mail places lock their doors with no warning whatsoever so there was no opportunity to notify everyone of mail changes. It's a real nightmare when it happens because you can't get your mail. I'm not saying this would happen at this place but it's why I stick with a place that's been around for years.

Blu: Not sure what the addy would look like...probably something like:

John Doe
C/O Back Street Boxes
P.O. Box 1234
St. Thomas, VI 00801

But, that's just a guess...

Trade: I'm gonna guess they've been there about 6 - 12 months? I know that the building was renovated recently, and they moved in shortly after it was done...maybe a year? They seem to be well ensconced in their environs...of course, so does Red Hook Mail Services, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't close their doors, too! Haha! I think the only 'solid' place would be the Post Office...but down here...ya never know! Haha!

I think Danny and his "Back Street Boxes" has been in operation now for over a year and he's built a great reputation already. He and his wife are good friends of mine, have been STT residents and homeowners for several years now, are here for the long haul and have stellar reputations. Not "fly-by-nighters" by any stretch of the imagination. For info you can either call the number which Marty gave (340-714-5770) or fax (340-714-5771) or email danniboy@yahoo.com. Hope this helps.

And, here's what your address would look like, according to Danny:

John Doe
2004 Bakery SQ PMB
St. Thomas, VI 00802-6472

Just wanted to say that my husband and I just got a PO Box at the Frenchtown post office and they still had some available.

I want to get a post office box at the Frenchtown post office. I was told there are none right now but to check back in a few weeks. Thought I'd post here to see if anyone has one that they are giving up - I would buy it of course.
Anyone ? Anyone ?

Thanks,
Suzette

Frenchtown is very conveniant, but if you need to pick up a package, be sure to plan for 30 minutes. Sometimes a little longer. Pretty good service though.

I too agree that Frenchtown is convenient but if you can manage it at all, check and see if Havensight has any available boxes. They are by far the NICEST postal clerks in the downtown area (IMHO). I go there if I have to mail anything out. Courteous, friendly efficient service.

Thanks Onika! You're always so helpful. I'll check there and keep checking at Frenchtown as well. They did have a big box available but it was $200/yr versus $68/yr.

Also, Havensight PO is open on Sunday mornings. I have never known of another PO open on Sunday, but I imagine it is to accommodate the cruise ship passengers.

I looked into getting a box at Havensight when they opened but they told me that if I received any packages I'd have to go to Sugar Estate to pick them up. Is that still the case? (I order a lot from catalogs, etc.)

On STX, you will have luck getting a PMB at Mail Boxes Etc. near the Sunny Isles on 70. Stop at Johnny Mangos for the best brisket meal too.

LOVE IT!

Marlene
