Wow! You all have been super helpful. I should have signed on to this site earlier. My accommodations are already paid for or I would take you up on this advise. I did find 18 on St Thomas. Chelsea and Sunrise in Redhook.(2) St Thomas Apothecary and VI Pharmacy on Main street. (4) X-press Drugs on Raadets Gade (sounds like this one is downtown near main street) (5) Frenchtown Drug in Frenchtown. (6)Havensight Pharmacy in Havensight. (7) I have an interview lined up with Kmarts district manager.(8) I now know where the 2 Dr's Choice are thanks to you and I need to make contact with them because they are also hiring. (10) Tradewinds Pharmacy in the Paragon Medical Building I imagine is by the hospital. (11) 2 Drug Farm (but I haven't found Lockhart on a map yet).(13) And there are 5 more that I don't know where they are Family Health in Barbel Plaza, Healthy Living Pharmacy Estate Ross, Nisky Pharmacy, Sunrise in Vitraco Park and The Medicine Man in Market Place.(18)

Ronnie, your place looks very nice and I will be back. As a single female traveling alone to a place where I have never been, I needed the security of what I knew would be a safe place. The Ritz is an expensive hobby I have had since I was a young woman. I have been to 8 already. I have a 3 hour layover in San Juan just so I can have lunch at the Ritz there. I don't live near the lap of luxury, but the ambiance of these places is intoxicating for me! Silly woman I know!

Both Drug Farms are within walking distance to the hospital as is the one in Paragon Medical Building. There are 2 K-Marts, one near the hospital but that one doesn't have a pharmacy. The big K-Mart does & is considered to be in the "country" in Tutu Park Mall which is not within walking distance. The Doctor's Choice in Wheatley is across the street from the Drug Farm in Lockhart Plaza so that's also within walking distance of the hospital.

Trade, you have been so much help - I can't thank you enough. I am now able to reduce the list to 14 pharmacies and have grouped them into 5 areas I can find. I feel organized enough that I may forego the rental car and just taxi and walk. Car rental is 2-3 times what it is in the states. I can have a lot of rides for that price. The cheapest I found was $50/day since I am not staying a full week (Tues- Saturday). A friend is now considering tagging along with me and I told him it would cost him a car rental since I have already paid for my accomodations! Ha! I may get out of driving myself this time. If I get a job and can stay this winter, I'll have plenty of time to do "the tourist thing" and drive around later. I can't wait to visit your beautiful island 😎

Good luck with whatever you decide on your driving/taxi operations. There are a couple of good restaurants right next to the Ritz at Elysian Beach Resort too. Hope it all works out well for you.

I'll be eating cheap - probably pack a lot of power bars in my purse! I am a sushi lover though and I saw 4 or 5 sushi restaurants on the island. Which one is near to where I'll be staying (Ritz/Wyndham) or near downtown or the hospital?

Lotus in American Yacht in Red Hook is closest. There's also En Kai in Crown Bay which is near the airport & there's one in Havensight but I can't remember the name. There's also Benni Iguana which is downtown, I think. There's one you'll pass on the way to the Ritz on the left side of the road but I can't remember the name of that one either.

I thought Enkai is in Frenchtown? (I don't eat sushi, but I know the owner and she's terrific!)

Sushi! My favorite topic! Lotus is the closest to the Ritz at American Yacht Harbor, across the street from Chelsea Drugstore. The other place along the road, across from Petra's Schnitzel Haus, is Buddha Sushi. The place in Havensight is Beni Iguana, they closed the one downtown. En Kai (at Gregerie East- between Frenchtown and Crown Bay 😉 ) is most excellent (dnt, you might like it! Come try!!) And Acacia at Magen's Point is supposed to have sushi.

jacqueline: The phone book is full of outdated information. For example, Sunrise is no longer around. When you get here, ask everyone for referrals, if you don't get the original job. It will very easy to network for the type of work you are looking for, and I am gathering that to be pharmacist? Oh, and the Drug Farm behind the hospital is in the Medical Arts Building, Tradewinds is in Paragon. Welcome to the funhouse!:-)

Thank you for the warm welcome to the funhouse East Ender! Ha! I am so happy the island has plenty of sushi places and to meet a fellow sushi lover!

And thank you for the tip on the phone book. I AM a pharmacist - you are correct!

Trade and dntw8up you guys(or girls - I don't know which!) have been great too 😎

Good Morning dntw8up,

I have found discrepancy in the taxi rates. Ritz hotel site gives a taxi rate of $65!! and the chart shows $15. Wyndham states $24 on their site and chart shows $13. Can you help a girl out here?

The rates are not negotiated, and can be found on the vacation section of this forum (Travel Message Board link above your original post), under St Thomas, Transportation, Taxi Rates: http://www.vinow.com/stthomas/getting_around_stt/taxi_stt/

This is all I found on the Ritz site for St. Thomas:

Taxis

Taxis are readily available at the airport, cruise ship dock, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas and at popular attractions and beaches. Taxis charge per person and by destination. There are no metered taxis. Taxi rates are set by the VI Taxicab Division.

Edited to add that the official rates are the ones dntw8up gave you are the only ones to go by.

You are correct Trade. I mis spoke. It was in the email they sent me. I am still concerned about the discrepancy. Wondering if the rate list might be as outdated as the phonebook?

The Ritz was involved in a big bru hah hah with having their own limos at the airport to pick up their guests. They no longer do that and tell their guests to take a private taxi, $90 for up to 4 people, or maybe do the Tropic Tours pick up which could be the lesser amount.

Boy there sure is a lot of misinformation to be had on the internet! I see the rates are a little higher on the link dntw8up linked me to than the chart I wandered over to somewhere. I don't know what I would do without you guys. I'm going to have a find a way to thank you all of you like taking some stateside requests or something!

Also, you should be aware that taxis here are vans that the drivers fill before leaving the airport, so there may be stops along the way to your destination to drop other passengers.

Thank you for the information. Now I understand the difference in the pricing. I don't mind riding in a van with a bunch of other people. I could meet some interesting folks 🙂 I am sure my ride will take a long time but hey, I'll be enjoying the scenery! I'm very patient too, even patient enough for island time 😎

Well, then you`ll fit right in!!
Rates are $15(according to what I found) airport to Ritz.
They also charge per bag $2-$5.
You can call the Taxi Commission at (340) 776-8294.
The taxi driver you get may be rude(or not), don`t let that get to you though!
Enjoy yourself here!
