Property Tax Resolution??

Has the Gov't ever come to a resolution regarding property taxes?? I received a bill that later I found out was not supposed to be sent out last year. I paid it, then the courts a week later decided the bills should not have been sent out. So once I spoke to some gov't employees at the tax office they said either the check would be held until the situation was resolved and put towards future tax bills or I could cancel the check. I stopped payment on the check with my bank....would rather keep my money in my pocket than the gov'ts pocket.....and now 6 months later I get a letter saying they cashed the check and it got returned due to stop payment. Now supposedly they are going to take action if I don't remit the payment and a returned check fee in a cashiers check in 10 days. And the amount of the returned check fee is not even mentioned......thats just one of 3 major mistakes on the letter. Don't the gov't employees proof read stuff????

Not really sure what to do with this. Any advice or has the gov't ever done anything with the tax situation? Tippi.....you out there.....you had emailed me articles in the past.

Oh and this is for a timeshare property so the tax amount is really not that much.

Suggestion" Pay It," all of it ,a tax lien clouds the title of the property and the burden of proof is on you to clear the title. That little sum could turn into a big number. Good Luck!

Oh I have no problem paying it if the USVI gov't has resolved its property tax situation. Are the bills now considered legit, thats my main question? If the bills were mailed in error and that is still the fact, then why should they be demanding money for an illegitimate bill???

Schnell, no resolution has come forward from the gov't. As of this writing, we are waiting on the gov't decision. Via PM send me your email address and I'll add you to my "tickler" file for notices on taxes.

You can never go by what a government employee tells you on the phone. Trust me on this. You learned the hard way.
