Purchasing a condo

We are currently in the process of buying a condo on STT. We are trying to decide whether to keep it for our own use vacationing on the island (We live in Massachusetts), vs doing weekly or 3-6 month rentals. Once we retire we will probably spend about 4-5 months/year on the island. Also, I recently spoke with another woman who lives in Ct. and owns 2 short term rental condo's on the island and she talked about the tremendous time and energy it takes for upkeep of her units due to rust, sun, and corrosion. She says that she is down there every 8-12 weeks for a week or more just to handle issues with her property. Yikes, is this realistic? Any advice for us on possibly renting our condo out, pros and cons would be appreciated.

Not to mention people sitting on your furniture with wet bathing suits or paying the electric bill for people who want A/C 24 hours a day when the temperature is perfect outside. 😮 One thing is to check on the rules and regs of the condo association. Some have specific rules about rentals.

For true, EE! We have a couple of units where the actual residents don't pay the bill, and the A/C is blasting. Now really, folks....does anyone here need a/c this week? NOT!
