Question about housing

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could offer me any information on housing in the red hook area. My girlfriend and I plan to move to the island in mid october and it seems we have secured a job possibility at Molly Mallones. I spoke with a man named Mike that was reffered to us via this web page concerning temporary housing. He was helpful, but the prices he mentioned were not very encouraging. He said that we should plan on around 975 a month plus utilities. He mentioned two complexes including saphire, and one other. I'm wondering if we will be able to save any money if we are paying that much to rent a place? Any advice? PS we will not have a car on the island..... Thanks so much for your time......

Hello Phillips,

You can find a studio or one bedroom for less then $975. Sapphire is a nice condo/resort development... beach in walking distance, pool, tennis courts. You can find places for $550, $600, $700... but the appearance, size, furnishings, location of course will vary. Are you trying to secure an apartment before moving? Perhaps you might stay in a short term for a few days/weeks so you can check the classifieds and look for a place. You need to save $$ so you can pay first, last and security which many landlords require.

Without a car and working at Mollys your best bet is to find something in the Red Hook area... East End.

I am the girlfriend. Yes we would like to secure housing before we come down however we understand that will be difficult so we are willing to do the short term housing. We are not going to be too picky about size. we would even rent a room from someone if we could find one. We are going to be living out of backpacks trying to save whatever we make. We have some money saved to come down and we plan on working for the next month and a half to save up some more.

In your opinion is Mollys a good place to work during tourist season? We plan to travel after our adventure ends in St. Thomas.
