Hello

Can anyone tell me if real estate agents charge renters a fee for finding an apartment? I have been a landlord in the past stateside and the tenant has always paid the Realtor fee, but I'm not sure how it works in STX. It could be a factor while looking for a place. Thanks so much!

I had always thought it was the opposite...that the Landlord paid the realtor the fee for finding the tenant. Maybe I'm wrong?

I agree Vicanuck. The owner of the property pays the realtor fees. I have never heard of a tenant having to pay a realtor fee for renting a place.

and it's generally one month's rent, and that does not include any charge that the landlord would incur if the realtor is going to collect the rent/act as manager to some degree.

There are no charges to anyone for helping them find a rental.
The realtors are paid by landlord that have listed on MLS renting property.

Commissions paid vary and are split by listing agent/agency and tenant's agent/agency if not the same. Sometimes it's equal to a month's rent, sometimes it's less.

Thanks so much everyone!! We had a Realtor over to try to rent out place stateside and the tenant pays part of the fee. Glad to hear that's not the case on STX! Thanks for your help! We booked our PMV for August- can't wait!
