Which island? There is a lot of info about shipping dogs on this site. You might want to look for those threads since it can be tough to get flights at that time with dogs due to the heat.

Where are you moving from? If your dogs are used to a cool climate, it is a lot tougher on them. Border Collies are usually energetic outdoorsy dogs, with coats designed to protect them from the cold. If they like the water it will help a lot. One of my dogs would run on the beach and keep taking a quick dip to cool off. The other was scared of water, didn't even want to get his feet wet, and a couple of times he scared me by almost collapsing with heat exhaustion. He is a young athletic type, similar to a Border Collie, and there was no way he wanted to slow down because of the heat!

Fleas/ticks are a big problem, although from what I'm hearing, it might depend a bit on where on the island you live. One of my dogs got tick fever, but strangely enough the other dog didn't, even though I'm sure they were getting bitten by the same ticks. Heartworm preventive medication is 100% essential, please don't underestimate the importance of it.

Much has already been said about the transportation side of moving. September is still hot, so it is a lot more complicated, but several people who post on this board have done it successfully.

Good Luck!

Which island? Do you want info on rentals? How long do you plan to need a place? I offer short term rentals, and I allow pets. So, if I can be of assistance, please let me know. My website is http://www.virginislandsrentals.com
