Paul - The first question that I have to ask you is which island are you asking about?

If the island is St. Croix, you should be able to get all the information you need from the tax assessor's offices in either Christiansted or Frederiksted. If the properties you are seeking are all titled in your father's name, they should be able to pull them up pretty easily in the tax records and give you a list of property plot numbers and tax ID numbers. They can also let you know about any property taxes that are in arrears.

Vacant lots can be difficult to locate on the island. Once you have the plot numbers, the next step is often to go next door to the Kadastral plat map office and get a good idea from the maps of how to best locate the specific properties when you drive out to find them.

If you would like assistance with this process on St. Croix, I can meet with you to guide you through it and make sure you get all the info you need. Do you have any idea approximately how many properties you need to locate? If you have a rough idea, that will be helpful to make sure the tax office doesn't miss some of the records. If you have old deeds or property lists your father might have kept, that's even better!

Let me know if you'd like my help and when you will be arriving on-island.
You can reach me at stcroixhomes@hotmail.com or 340-514-5591.

If you are seeking properties on St. Thomas or St. John, I hope you find someone to assist you on those islands. The process should be similar, but I don't know the locations of the tax assessor's office or the plat map office there. I live on St. Croix and it isn't logistically feasible for me to offer services on those islands. Good Luck!

I am sure he is talking about STX. There is a Stadium named for his father.

I figured he meant STX, but wanted to be sure, since Joseph is an old island name and some locals do move between the islands. It doesn't look like he's been back to check for responses to his post, though.
