Resumes

Hi
I just read on one of the "What to Expect" stories that many employers are hesitant of responding to a resume sent from the states. Is that true? I have sent a few resumes to the Antilles school and the USVI Dept. of Ed and now I am worried that they will not contact me back because I am still in the states.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Unfortunatly we will not be able to visit before our move to do interviews or personal deliveries of resumes. We have jobs to finish up and have to save $ for our move.
So what do you all think? Is it hopeless for me to find a teaching job, or should I expect a long wait?
Thanks!
Brooke

Don't worry Brooke, schools do not fall into that catagory. They depend on outside applications, and I hear Antilles is losing 14 teachers this year, so it may look good for you!

Brooke, like Ronnie said what you read does not apply to teachers, nursing and other high demand positions. What it does apply to is restaurants, wait staff, bartenders... those in hiring positions prefer that the applicant be on island.

Teaching is in high demand you should find something.

You could call the offices you sent the resume too, and just confirm receipt, maybe ask whether they need anything further.

Brooke- Great question! I am in the process of completing my board of ed application. I was stressed about not being down there yet. What did you put down for your contact information? Did you explain that you will give them a local phone number when you get there or did you come up with some other system for contact? Maybe resending your resume when you get an apartment?

Sarah,
I put down my current information here in the states. I also sent a resume to Antilles, and I dropped the headmaster an email as well to let him know that is a good way of contacting me too.
I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it. I guess I should have given them a date of arrival.....When are you moving down there?
Let me know if you come up with any good leads or info!!!!
