Also Ronnie I said we were not taken legal action. We have our car back and bobby made some money If we were in the states this would not have happened BUT we realize we left the states to experience the island life so it's just a
lesson learned.

Ronnie, Boby may be great guy. However, it's the business practice that is in question, what about uniforms or Id badges, or taking CC's?
This may not be how it done "VI style" but he is dealing with a high volume of tourrist who view his practices in a completely different light. You'd think that a popular "tourrist centric" area would hire a "tourrist sensitve" sub-contractor.

Of course, he can run his business anyway he wishes. But if he's concerned about how his actions are precieved then he may want to tweek the proceedures. If Bobby, or his clients, don't care about the impression their methods convey, then why do they give a hoot about the negitive recations. I've seen these boot guys mixing it up with visitors and it ain't pretty. I'm sure they all go home to the states with a story.

Lovin' you are not alone. There postings on other forums from other folks with different dates, simialar stories, different amounts. I'll PM you.

Yep I did fail to give all the details - But the point is it is still extortion. My boyfriend broke the boot that is why I agreed to pay $400 from the start to own the mistake made. I also knew that a new boot cost about $250. Because the boot was broken does it give him the right to keep changing the price - I was apologetic for the actions of my boyfriend and nice to them.. So at $400 he still would have made a fair profit. Did they take the pictures with my iPhone they stole from me? We were never offered the option to replace the boot. It doesn't matter how nice you think bobby and his company practices are - a lot of ppl have been offended by him - imagine how many tourist had this happen to them and will never return because if this

Fascinating how hearing the other side of a story so easily alters the perspective and clarifies things.

Your boyfriend broke the boot and you agreed to pay the $400 to replace it. That was very nice of you. But you say you knew a new boot costs $250? That's not information that the average layman has tucked into his brain so has this sort of thing happened to you before on STT that you know exactly how much they cost? And how do you know that a "lot of ppl have been offended by (Bobby)"? You've been living here for all of a few months so I guess you've either been booted/towed several times by this one particular company or know people who have been.

I doubt very much that this would happen to tourists who behaved themselves responsibly not only in the first place but as the scenario continued ... I frequent visitor forums regularly and the ONLY booting incident involving tourists which I've seen written about in years is the recent incident involving a market on St John which poster blu4u kindly linked as evidence of this surge of dastardly guerilla behavior.

Bottom line for me: if the police or some other government authorized entity does NOT apply the boot, then it is illegal.

The simple fact is - you chose to park, knowingly, in a "No Parking" area that has signs, you know are strictly enforced and you know you will be booted or towed if caught! Islandlovin got caught and due to the boyfriend's stupidity by breaking the boot (who does that?), paid a higher price. Those actions compounded the situation. I am surprised that they allowed them to pay for the boot without filing a police report for destruction of property. Suck it up as "lesson learned," stop complaining and don't continue to park where you are not allowed.

Old tart - You act like you are all high and mighty and you put ppl down for there comments - you have done everything to be unwelcoming to me on here. Yeah I have only lived on the island for 11 months (SO WHAT)but that does not mean I have no opinions or experiences. I did not read anywhere on the rules here that i cant have an opinion because other ppl have lived on the island longer then me.
And not that I need to justify myself to you but I will - I know how much a boot cost because my family works in the car business in the states. And I have a very good friend who works at the airport for port authority he told us they cost that price as well. So no OldTart this is not typical behavior of my boyfriend and myself. We made a mistake and I was willing to pay a fair price - how many ppl do you know who own up to there mistakes and want to pay a fair price to make up for there mistake?
This forum is for ppl to discuss topics not BULLY ppl for the topic or opinions made. And OldTart I am sure you will post another MSG with a dig at me - just know this conversation is over.

If you are going to interact or read this Blog, which I find to be both stimulating and generally a positive news force for us Virgin Islanders, and frankly if you're going to live in the VI, you'll have to come to grips with a basic premise: there are an overwhelming number of people (on this site and elsewhere across the VI,) that feel a sense of entitlement you have never known. Get used to the "I'm better than you and know more than you ever will." Kind of sad if you let it get to you. It is easily ignorable with some practice and laughs.

One of the reasons the fishing club restricts parking 24/7 is because they sometimes have events at night, and attel ees need parking. Taco Hell doesn't have any parking spaces in either lot, so you need to find legal parking and walk there.

Even if you stop for "just a few minutes" the owner of the spot shouldn't have to wait to use their property.

There is enough information here regarding the parking situations for readers to get a gist of what happened and for them to be aware of no parking signs and the possible repercussions of parking in those areas.
