ok i'm truly tired of the pro/con crap i'm reading on this thread, heres a dose of the reality i live with.. I ran into one of the lavallee guys whose family has lived here for a couple hundred years tonight,so i asked him about this murray trash kid. he told me the murray family are shirt tail relations of people that have lived here for years and the murray father is devestated that his son did this, the father says i did not raise my son this way,who knows i don't care what i do care about is the fact that i have to see in public a lavallee man break down because people think now that lavallee is a bad place and we breed criminals up here, goddamn but it was one of the most heartbreaking things i've seen in years ,he was having a fit in public and crying and it truly pisses me off that an outsider would move up here and pull this crap

trw, since this is a public forum, I really appreciate you bringing this other, more local dimension, for all of us to share.

I don't mind if you call my posts crap, but I really hope that you didn't mean to imply that the carefully thought out, sincere, thought provoking, equally valid posts of others like Lizard, Sailaway, mrj1182, Stephanie, stxem, etc are just "crap".

no i was just being emotional after what i had to witness last night, i personally am anti gun, the ONLY guns we need are rifles used in hunting,my step father was law enforcement so we had guns all over the house and the i was taught when i was like 6 years old how to shoot, but would i own a gun nope not at all,i thought long and hard when we moved here about buying one,but in the end decided not too, which is just as well because i'da probally ended up as a vigilanty,i have too little faith in the legal system down here and i could just see myself going out and shooting someone that everyone knows is guilty but gets off on some technicality, and trust me you would not want me in politics, because some of my views are very conservative,i am a true believer in locking them up and throwing away the key and i do not believe in 2 seperate systems of laws, meaning one for juveniles and one for adults,i am a death penalty advocate for murder, drug dealing, rape and crimes against children, you con the elderly out of their life savings you get the chair.

trw, I share some of your views... specifically on the one that children shouldn't be treated differently than adults. They have gotten far too smart and most of them consciously know they will be treated differently because they are young.

oh i forgot to add any crime that is committed with a weapon, and i just had to go get the other half from work and i see there is another late night boozefest going on at cane bay beach right now as i type this,i am waiting with baited breath to read about the next new victims in the papers.i slowed down so i could see the faces in the crowd and not one of those faces lives up here thereby showing a complete and total lack of respect for those of us that live up here, while we enjoy the free and unfettered access to beaches here in the usvi THERE IS NO REASON TO BE PARTYING ON THE BEACH AT 2am,especially in an area in which you do not reside.

There is plenty of reason to be partying at 2AM at any beach.

They should also do like England does (did?). After you are sentenced to death, you die on the first sunny day.
would make you want to go somewhere other than USVI or AZ to commit a crime. LOL

terry, that wouldn't be much of a deterrent in England, you could be waiting a very long time! But seriously, the death sentence (by hanging - no choices there!) was abolished many, many years ago. The gallows in St Vincent are a tourist attraction. I don't think they are used any more, but some islands do still have the death penalty.

OH BOY!! I am all over this one! death penalty? how about eye-for an eye torture, that's what I would LOVE to see,no easy-way-out humane- put -the -bad- guy -to- sleep crap. I wish so badly that we as a society can't decide how a person should suffer for thier crimes.

I'm not religious, but I believe more in the new testament principals than the old. Simplified, WWJD.

well first you tie their feet together, then you knee cap em and take them 15 miles out to sea and toss them overboard so they can get a very large dose of the same fear they inflicted on their victims.

Don't think that hasn't happened here either if stories I've heard have a grain of truth, especially among the Northsiders.

Im just glad my friends are ok and that it was a signal and deterrant to those that would commit these crimes. The police did a great job catching them and we can all only hope that this violence will stop. Just by all discussing it heals everyone involved, and we are ALL involved.

Trying to find a little humor in the situation-- 🙂

George Carlin would have said:

"Lets buy a decent sized island 50 miles alone at sea surrounded by sharks and build an 20 foot high electric wall and divide the island into 4 quarters. In the 4 sections we will put:

Section 1-All the rapists and child molesters
Section 2-All the violent criminals(armed assault/murder etc)
Section 3-All the gang bangers, gun runners and drug lords
Section 4-All the violent psychopath nutcases

Then lets have special gates that open up in between the sections for 30 minutes every week, Then lets drop in some basic food, and all the guns, and all the cocaine and heroin seized off the streets and have it all on HBO to pay for it all!

-No more prisons in our towns or taxpayer dollars spent!
-Guns and drugs and dangerous criminals off the streets!
-Great TV!!! NOW THATS HBO"

I think Rowan Atkinson did a great piece on "Welcome to Hell" that would satisfy many of these concerns!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XFGrQMD6Uqc

Seriously, I live stateside and I've often thought that public pillories and stocks would take a lot of the glamour out of petty crimes. Take away that "cache" at an early point in the path and who knows.....

OT - anybody know why the stocks and pillories were abandoned? Seriously, I'd love to really know. Doesn't seem like "cruel and unusual punishment" (okay, maybe unusual!).

Jesus never specifically addressed punishment for civil crime, -other than to say "render unto Caesar" and "love enemies" (which is not the same as "don't lock up molestors." What Jesus DID Do (WJDD) was reserve his specific comments and condemnations for religious rules and religious zealots who thought they spoke for God.

...Which is to say, the subject of "WWJD" regarding violent career criminals is WIDE OPEN to interpretation.

I for one assume he was a "man of the Old Testament" in such matters, and certain events in his life confirm it ---protecting the innocent and honest person from those who would oppress them.
