Hey all,

If anybody is going to have a need for a roommate around the 2nd week of July let me know... (via e-mail). I would be interested in filling any available spot. Just let me know what my share of the rent would be and if that includes any utilities.

Stuff about me:

I smoke, (am willing to quit if neccessary).

I'm 25 single, not married, have no children.

I'll be going to grad school at UVI, and I'll be at work during the day.

I won't be coming down with much, Just clothes, my CD's, and money (of course, around $3000.00) eventually I would have everything (TV, DVD player, etc.) shipped down here by my relatives.

If anybody can help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Dave

Hey Dave...

I can't help you out in July, but I'm planning on moving down in September / October. I'm 22, just graduated and am interested in doing research / grad work at UVI, don't smoke but don't mind, pretty easy to live with, etc... I'll try to follow through / up with you in the future as things progress.

Kyle,

This works...

The reason I'm doing July is because classes start in August and I want a month to get settled in. Also, rents are cheaper in July and more apartments are available..

Where you from Kyle? Whats your background??

Hello Dave,

I don't have any info right now. I would suggest though that you check the bulletin boards at UVI when you get on island, when I attended students would put up ads for room-mates, books for sale other stuff on the bulletin boards in hallways.

If you want to make up a Looking for a Room-mate ad (with information on you and getting in touch with you via e-mail and phone and that you are coming to island in July to attend school ect) and e-mail it to me I will see about sticking it up on the bulletin boards at UVI (St. Thomas campus) - maybe a student who has an apartment might give you a shout - worth a try. The ones that I see there a lot are the ones with the little tear off contact slips on the end - if you know how to do that in word.

Dave,

I'm from Southern NJ. I grew up spending my winters at home and my summers at the beach. Im graduating from the University of Delaware this May with a BA in Criminal Justice. I tend to do all kinds of stuff in my free time ( Snowboard, Surf, Ride Motorcycles, Play the Drums, Scuba Diving, Boating, socializing, etc...). I will more than likely be bringing a car down also. I will be making my scouting trip right after I graduate so I'm waiting till then to make any more concrete plans. Good luck finding a place...

Thanks Kyle

I'm graduating from Salem State College in May. My background is computers and education.

I'm from Northern Massachusetts.

Keep me up to-date with your plans..

Maybe your plans will work out to needing a roommate. You from the Northeast just like me so that counts for something.

Thanks

Dave

This response isn't about roommates but I came across Dave and Kyle's messages which caught my interest and raised a few questions. What caught my interest with you two is that I am in a very similar situation. I too am just about to graduate from college in May and have been thinking about moving to St. Thomas a month before the peak season starts. I am 23 years old, grew up in New Hampshire and currently live in South Carolina attending Clemson University.
I am curious as to why ya'll chose the Virgin Islands for grad school or whatever other reason? My major is travel and tourism and after graduation I want to gain more experience in the field. This is a huge decision for me to make, my parents think it's crazy, and I just don't want to make any mistakes. What influenced your decision? Any advice would be extremely valuable. I apologize for changing the subject. Good Luck..

Hey Leslie,

Why I chose STT... Some buddies of mine always go to BVI over christmas break with their families, charter a cat, and sail around for the 2 weeks. This, obviously, is awesome. So we were supposed to all go live on one of the guys dads boat for the summer. Plans fell through, but I was hooked. However i've never been, so i'm going down a couple days after graduation to see if im still 100%

Why go anywhere at all? I need a change basically. I have alot of new things I want to learn and experience (sailing, diving, culture,etc...) and I really don't know what I want to do career wise yet. Good place to pass the time in my opinion. Good luck, oh and the parents will get used to it, just learn everything thats on this site and bore them with details 😉

Leslie and Kyle,

The reasonong behind my choice to wanting to go to ST. Thomas is I want change. I have lived in New England all my life. I have never traveled and I have never lived in a warm climate. My main reason is grad school UVI. They have an excellent Master's of Education program.

Plus, I'm sick of New England women they are always pissed off at the world(I'm only joking).

Another important point is I like the heat, I hate the cold. I want to be there in the middle of winter and it is 75 degrees out while everybody I know back in New England is freezing their butts off.

These are some of the reason why I want to go

Hey I got an idea, where all three of us (Myself, Leslie, and Kyle) are in the same situation maybe we should consider going on a a 3 bedroom apartment. It isn't like none of us haven't had the experience of having roommates who are total strangers. If you lived on campus in the dorms then you would know exactly what I am talking about.

I'm from Massachusetts, Leslie you said you were from New Hampshire, and Kyle your from New Jersey. It isn't like we all live terriblely far from each other. I'm only about a 40 mins from the New Hampshire border and New jersey is about 4 hours from where I am.

Maybe all three of us can work something out??? Tell me what you think..

You will more than likely find a house to fit your needs. A year or so ago one, of my guests had emailed everyone she saw on another board that were moving here as to the same thing. They all showed up here at the same time and ended up renting a 4 bedroom house!

I am also a 2003 graduate ( Univ. of Mich.) and am trying to make it down to St. Thomas around September. I realize I am kinda the odd man out here, considering I'm from Michigan and I would be the 5th person in this group, but I'm interested. I'm a 23 year old ex-tennis professional with a degree in Sports Management and Communications. If I could possibly help you guys decrease living costs by joining your clan, let me know.

Thanks,
Patrick

Two Kyles (and im a Kyle P too)... this could get confusing.

The more the merrier I always say and in this situation I think everyone would benefit from everyone else (unless one of you is a total psycho). Let's see what happens.

Hey Guys (and ladies),

This is what we have to do. Kyle is going down their for a planning trip in June. So, Kyle you are our in man. We need you to scope out either a 4 bedroom apartment/house. Now I realize only three of us and Leslies' roommate maybe coming also. Granted it will be later on down the road for them.

Kyle P. is going down the end of May. This works out. I'll end up going down the 2nd week of July. So Kyle P. if you want to scout stuff out also, that would be good.

Now if it works for all you folk going down their late August/Early September.

I can always rent shot term at the Flamboyant Manor (Studios go for $600 month) till all of us get down their together.

If anybody else has suggestions please post on this board or e-mail me SScDave@yahoo.com

Thanks

Dave

Will do...
I just need some things clarified first...

1) we'll be looking for a larger rental starting in September when all of us will be there?
2) "All of us" is still a bit unclear... I'll be a bit hesitant to get myself engaged in a deal unless I know who is definitly involved and that no one will be backing out.
3) Who is coming when?
4) What part of the island was everyone interested in living in. I myself was looking into the East End area due to the availability of business, etntertainment, and access to St John and the BVI.

We still have 2 months before the first of us get there so we have plenty time to get this all figured out. My AIM screenname is FreeRidr82 if anyone wants to get in touch.

I am going to bow out of the group, so don't worry about me. Too many details for me to address at the moment, so don't know when I'll be coming down. Thanks though.

Eagan is out

I am definitly in. I as well would like to know exactly who is in and not and when exactly everyone is going down, I was a little confused about that. I don't really care what part of the island I am on. I just want to be close to the action and buisness area. Sounds like fun, I am pumped to see if there really is enough of us to do this.

Okay The Secretary is here! LOL! This is what I've come up with on all the stats.

DAVE: for grad school UVI
2nd week of July
Smoker
25
N. Mass attended Salem State College
SScDave@yahoo.com
Looking for rental near UVI
Starting budget at 2.5T -3.5T

KYLE: for research/grad work
September time frame
22
not smoker; not mind
from Southern NJ attended U of Delaware
AIM screen name FreeRidr82
Looking at East End near businesses
(scheduled pre-move end of June)
Starting budget at ?

KYLE P: reason ? checkin' in with because I can and wanna bum around
end of May or Junish
age? checkin' in at 24
smoking pref ?
from Texas attended ? Texas A&M
ktp0619@hotmail.com
No location pref. Like Kyle's idea for location
Starting budget at ?

LESLIE: To gain experience in tourism field
September time frame
23
smoking pref ?
from New Hampshire attended Clemson (SC)
ya'll have her email
location pref ?
Bringing possible friend/roommate with her
Starting budget at ?

So there are all the public stats on your group. You'll have to print it off and fill in the blanks from your private emails.
I would consider budget amounts and expectations on that info and exchange telephone numbers. That way when Kyle P is there first, he can make calls to you and eventually meet up with Kyle #1 when he goes to visit in June. Kyle #1 may just not leave cause he'll love it anyways!
