Sales Positions?

Hi All.

What a great board! Thanks for all the valuable tips and info about life in the VI's.

My wife and I have also been considering the "big move" and have a few questions.

I have 18+ years of professional sales/management experience stateside My sales experience has been in several fields, Hospitality, Information Technology and Education (Dir. of Admissions). I'm wondering where to look for a territory sales position or who are the larger companies that hire salespeople. I'm not interested in commission only, looking for base + comm + bennies. Am I dreamin?

My wife has been a Cosmetologist for 15 years, job availabilities there? We have no children and are hoping to settle in to a position where we don't have to blow through our retirement or savings and actually continue to contribute to retirement funds. Dreamin again?

Next; do you think islanders would have issues with buying products from a Stateside American. Would we be viewed as intruders taking away local jobs?

How bout hospital care? Doctors? Are they up to speed with mainland?

Thanks for the help.

Also, I have a house in Florida for sale, on the water/canal. 3 canals from the Gulf of Mexico, 45 minutes North of Clearwater Fl. Boat lift , big dock and jet ski lift included, 2/2 1350 sq. ft. asking $370,000. Anyone looking to move back?

What island?

On St. Thomas, there's always time share selling & if you're good you can make really good money but don't know if that's what you'd be interested in. Also the major hotels have sales departments. There are good doctors here & RLS Hospital has vastly improved over even a few years ago. It's not the Mayo Clinic, however.

Thanks Trade, We're considering STT because we've been there 3 times on cruises. I may consider time share sales, does it require a Realtors license?

Speaking of real estate, would a US license transfer to STT or do you need to be licensed on-island? Can anyone give me info on becoming a Realtor there? Is it realistic to think a new Realtor could, in time, do well ?

You have to have a usvi license. You haveto submit an application, I believe you need a agency/realtor to sponsor you and a couple of passport size pictures. The board approves/disapproves all temporary licenses, good for 6 months until you take the test. You can not even rent property without a license here unless of coarse it is your own property. This may be a little off but I'm sure one of the realtors will correct me, but the first sentence is definitely right.

Thank you Betty. I guess no one has a handle on sales positions except Trade? Anyone know about the liquor distribution business? Sales positions there maybe? Anything locally being sold to the cruise ships? Food distribution business maybe?

You could try being a liquor rep. Premier Wine & Spirits, Bellows International or West Indies Corporation all have sales reps. Whether they need anyone currently, I have no idea.

Thanks very much! All good leads!

Are there any technology companies that might hire salespeople?
