I doubt and hope this does not become the 60+ posts about mosquitos. I'll keep it short. Sea urchin.... stingers in foot......need help... Owwwwww........ Actually its not that bad, I'm just a wuss.

Ok here is the general concensus I have gathered so far: They will go away on their own. I tried pulling one out but it just breaks apart into a sandy like substance.

To help them go away I have heard:

1. Pee
2. Windex
3. Ammonia
4. Bleach
5. Epsom Salts (for pain)

Anyone have some secret ancient recipie to make these suckers go away STAT. REWARD OFFERRED!!!!!!!!!!!

Number !. Both on your list and the real thing, is the way to go. Just do it! The uric acid will disolve the urchin.

I too tangled with a whole beach full of then the very first day I went in the water here where I live - but I knew they were bad guys and was trying to be cautious.

Several in one hand, had fins on so none in feet.

Ronnie is right - number 1 is the only way to resolve, or should I say, DISSOLVE, the problem.

I dug out some of my little pieces........and.........here is the best news of all! They have now totally cleared out of the beach area here by the house, so now when I go it - no worries.

So, like mosquitos - these too shall pass away.

Thank you. I guess I will drink lots of water today. I'm looking forward to my evening of fun.

Vinegar also takes the sting away, and can be easier to aim (at least for us girls). It's acidic, too, and should help to dissolve the spines.

*grin*

Good luck!

HC has a good point. A couple of years ago my wife got several spines in her foot, and no one on the boat could "work up" a #1. Everyone had just gotten out of the water from snorkeling. (Go figure!) Capt Gene of Reel Therapy, always carries a bottle of vinegar with him just for this emergency. She was walking fine that evening, and in the morning she was completely fine. Our salad was a little bland, but I wouldn't recommend the substitute! "grin"

Vinegar is the potion. I saw a documentary on a guy who tested all the stuff on Jelly fish stings etc. He always went back to the vinegar. I believe that some beaches even have vinegar stations for people who get stung. The guy did this on purpose to himself and would try all the known fixes as well as new products on the market. He always came back to vinegar.

We have also used MSG (mono sodium glutamate) aka.."Accent"...

This draws the poisons out. It also works well for stings from jelly fish.

However it makes me sick when I eat it in restaurant food....

It is always a part of our "beach kit"....
