What is the best way to ship to the VI. I have read some discouraging posts but they were from 2008. Wondering if it's any better now?

It depends on what you're shipping. USPS or a shipping container work well on the extreme ends of the spectrum.

The "best way" depends on what & how much you are shipping. Small packages, for instance, can go by parcel post. A house full of furniture will come by container ship.

Give us a better idea of what you are sending for proper advice.

Just thinking about the usual ordering of stuff, birthday gifts, clothing, as well as household goods, rugs, small furnishings (lamps, bedding)… Things we mainlanders do everyday, but might be an issue there.

The sorts of things you're listing are sent by stateside suppliers (online purchases) via USPS and primarily Priority. Same as interstate. I've ordered a few things too large to be shipped via USPS but which offer free shipping interstate so have had them sent to a shipper and sent on here by container. I haven't used a regular commercial shipper (but there are many threads here about shipping which have that information) as I have a business contact who has trailers coming in weekly and that's never a problem. With our limited market there are choices you just can't get here and/or the on-island price is prohibitive.

There is a post or two on who ships and related cost involved in the shipping.

Places like jc penney. Drug store.com etc. Do a search for shipping on this forum.
