I know I saw (and maybe even participated in) a thread with various recommendations for a special occassion restaurant on STT/STJ, but I cannot find it anywhere.
My bf has changed his mind about 16 times over what he wants to do for his birthday. We've gone from dinner at Thirteen here on STT to overnight on Jost to overnight Viequez to (at last) camping at Maho on STJ for the weekend. Since his birthday is SUNDAY, this better be the final decision. Now, where to eat Sunday night? Asolare was bandied, but after a look at Tripadvisor, he's waffling again.
HELP ME!! Even the link to the previous thread would be fantastic!
Zozo's still known as St John's fine diner? Has Asolare really gone from fabulous to mediocre? We've eaten at Morgan's Mango and La Tapas and RhumbLines -- love them, but would also love to try a different place.

Is this the thread you want, from Sept/Oct 2011?

ZoZo's and La Tapa are still the goods for super high-end. You are guaranteed a good experience, although it won't come cheaply. Morgan's and Rhumb Lines are extremely good and consistent, a notch down from the fine dining experience at the other restaurants mentioned. At their level, I have to put in a plug for Shipwreck Landing out in Coral Bay, some of my favorite food on the whole island for lunch or dinner, although unfortunately the chef I really like there does not work on Sunday nights. In Cruz Bay, Lime Inn is also good but I don't think open on Sundays.

Now, we are going to spend the night at one of the eco-tents at Concordia Saturday night. Did you know that locals get 50% off? I'm not sure if that's year round, but off season rates were already pretty low. Looking forward to spending two days with Salt Pond for the backyard!
Since we never get to spend much time in Coral Bay in the evenings, we are definitely going to have dinner there. Thinking about Sweet Plantains. But, sunset glass of wine and an appetizer at Zozo's could be arranged!

Have fun. Let us know what you think of Concordia. Gallows (STJ) did offer a 90@nght rate for locals in sept. (not sure about this year).

Sweet Plantains is wonderful - keep in mind they are closed Sunday and Monday. I assume you will have your car as the bus is running - well s l o w - every 2 hours with a 3 hour break in the middle of the day so getting back from Sweet Plantains (or ZoZo's) would require perfect timing.

ps: the curry at SW = excellent 🙂

Check out Shipwreck Landing if you are staying out in Coral Bay. Good food.
I am not sure If Ms. Lucy's is still doing Sunday brunch and dinners but that's very good West indian fare.
Enjoy your trip.

Concordia blew our minds! WOW!! We ended up spending two nights there. Those premium eco-tents are -- I can't find the words to describe. We will be going back again. We ate on Saturday night at Sweet Plantains. That was a really delicious curry. The crab appetizer was so highly seasoned that I could not even taste the crab. It was wierd and I would reccomend skipping that. The rum flight was kinda a rip-off, but we enjoyed the rum martini and the wine we had with dinner. The curry was outstanding, however. We talked about going to Shipwreck Tavern, but ended up at Aqua Bistro on Sunday night. We were definitely wanting to try Miss Lucy's, but between the curry and the bottle of Schramsberg the night before, we chose to have cinnamon rolls on the deck of our eco-tent. We made a stop at the bar at both the Tourist Trap and the Concordia Cafe. We loved the hike from Concordia to Salt Pond. I swore I wasn't going to go hiking again until winter, but I guess somebody's birthday would be an exception! *-) We hiked and climbed and soaked and snorkeled Salt Pond...I don't think I stopped smiling the whole time we were out there. I love being able to do that. That's the reason we moved here. And we WILL be doing it again...maybe bring our own groceries next time and REALLY check out for a couple of days. As a matter of fact, I should be editing the 500+ pictures I took! :@)
