While looking to move to St John I have found many sites saying that St John has very little nightlife and others that say for an island of that size it has nightlife but it is mostly bars and pubs. Which is it? What is the street seen like in Cruz Bay at 12 on a saturday?

Crowded. Bars and pubs. All in one little area.

Cruz bay's "downtown" is about 2 tiny blocks big.

Here is a run down of what you'll find.

Woody's Seafood: Open late and with just about the only food served after 11pm, Woody's is crowded from 3pm to close. 3-6pm is happy hour. When it's really full the crowd spills out into the street. There is music, which is basically just a big fancy stereo with a big CD collection that the bartender changes at will and at customer request. They have a website www.woodysseafood.com. Service is blazing fast and friendly.

Duffy's Love Shack: This is as close to a "nightlife" as you'll find on St. John. It has a DJ, dance floor and all the fancy, clubby lighting that comes with it. The original location is in Red Hook on St.Thomas. They serve big fruity drinks in weird glasses. There is an upstairs to hang out in if you get tired of dancing.

The Quiet Mon: This is a basic Irish pub. It's on a second floor and you can look right down at the crowd spilling out of Woody's.

Fred's: This is a dance club in what looks like someone's garage. Reggae and calypso all night long. Lots of locals.

Back Fence (Porch?): Bar with an occasional band. Has pool tables.

These are the bars that can be considered "nightlife" in "downtown" Cruz Bay. Each has a different appeal, for me it's just right.

Have fun, good luck and make sure you keep us posted as to your progress!!

Hello Peter,

Its a low key type of nightlife... a hang out, have a drink, hit happy hour and sit in plastic chairs just outside the bar type of nightlife. (Making a generalization here... there are variations but trying to give you a picture.) They are pretty much all in Cruz Bay and like Ronnie said in a small area. There are a couple spots in Coral Bay.

Its not a disco, club hopping type of nightlife so some folks might compare it to that and say its not much of a nightlife.

Islander...that is great, that type of nightlife you spoke about is all I need. A couple drinks and a bunch of people to talk to and some music.
