St. Thomas traffic

I've applied for a job that I think would be located in the Sub Base area. I don't know where I would want to live at this point but I'm wondering what the traffic on St. Thomas is like. I've heard it's horrible and unavoidable when a cruise ship is in port. True? Exaggerated?

rush hour is rush hour no matter where you are, it's definitely horrible and impossible. well, not totally impossible as people do eventually get to work... 😎

if you took lodgings in the west, such as fortuna, estate pearl you would be coming down with the university traffic and then turn off to sub base just as the traffic starts to get really heavy as many government offices are downtown.

there are some government offices in sub base as well, as well as the water and power authority so you will have good company.

you can also consider contant, or altona as well.

get yourself a st. thomas map and be sure to ask your homeowner or rental agent about your location.

I agree with Anita (as always:-))... get a map. Locate Frenchtown, and look from there west and a little north. Some areas can be a bit sketchy, so don't assume just because the location is good for work, it's a good location.

I apologize in advance for not remembering the name, but there is someone who occasionally puts an ad on here for an apartment building just up the hill from sub-base. I can't vouch for it...haven't seen it for a while. From the pics I see, it looks like they did a nice job with it. Has a pool and killer view. Maybe they will be reading, and will respond.

Traffic is Very time dependent - sometimes half an hour earlier and there is no traffic -- cruise ship traffic peaks about 4 pm in the Havensite area -- Mafolie hill - starts to back up about 7:45 til 8:30 and then is fine -- you will easily learn where and When to travel if possible.

North or west. I deal with the nightmare of Havensight everyday, you don't want any part of that.

Stay on the north side or west side. To from the east side to sub base, assuming that it is in the rush hour is a bad move. And now with construction going on everywhere due to the stimulus money it is a mess.

Just think about when they start work on Rapone hill!

Yikes the repaving on Skyline Drive is a killer lately in delays. Glad it's being surfaced, but the long waiting is a gas eater.
